I have a small lump, doctor said we shall keep an eye on it for 3 months. Whilst I appreciate they have their procedures, common sense says to me waiting 3 months in a worst case situation is not good for staying alive.
So if I wanted to get the lump checked out privately can I then go back to the NHS GP and say yes they found it was X, Y or Z? Or are you precluded from then continuing with NHS treatment.
Surely the waiting issue is the main problem that the NHS has, so if people are willing to speed up the diagnosis bit privately it would be a good thing for the NHS no?
Thanks for replies.
Hi, I think your very right going with your instinct, however you do not need to fork out private healthcare costs to.gain a hospital referral for further investigations. All you do is see a 2nd GP and ask them for a second opinipm as your extrrmely anxious. Also tell them your concerned you havent been taken seriously and really would.like.yo be seen by a specialist. Three months is quite a while to wait if it was anything sinister. The GP should then referhdh you.
when you are referred, if you have to wait months to be seen then you can be seen privately. Once seen privately hou can go back to nhs anytime aswell. Remember though youbpay national insurance therefore we are paying for our health service! Dont turn to private straight away, as I had to.fork.out lots just tp get a consultation.
Go for second opinion..good luck.
Excuse the grammar and spelling. New phone lol.
Of course you could go for a private consultation, but bear in mind that they too might say we'll keep an eye on it for 3 months, and you wouldn't be any further forward! If your GP had any worries he/she would have referred you for a biopsy or whatever, immediately.
Thanks you for some reason I though if you went to see private specialist or GP you were no longer allowed to go back to the NHS doctor. Thank you.
Basically it is a small 2cms by approx 1cm lump which is slightly purple under the skin at surface of muscle depth at the top of my thigh, not groin but very high up on the thigh, not in the 'crease' but on the leg top at groin height. It does not hurt and the doctor said it might be 'cystic' which I though a little odd considering it is slightly purple coloured where the lump is. I though purple would suggest blood like a bruise except I have not at all hit the area with any force.
I looked on line and wondered if it is possibly a 'hematoma' or "superficial thrombophlebitis"
Thanks thats give me something to go on. I really appreciate your replies thank you.
I mean it does not seem to get bigger (was at doctor about 12 days ago) so I will wait a little longer and then consider my choices.
