Hi, I have been on Setraline for over a year now, dose increased to 100 mgs in last few months. I just want to sleep all day, have no motivation to do anything. Feeling very sloth-like. I am so desperate to wake up bouncy on the mornings, and feel full of energy. I went to my GP yesterday, and he suggested Mirtazipine 15mgs nocte instead of Setraline. His advice is to wean off Setraline and then commence Mirtazipine. I am praying that this will change my life! I am 61 yrs old, and want so much to enjoy left again. I have no reason to be depressed! It is annoying. Any thoughts, please.
Hi venusia94, I used to take sertaline 50mg alone and did not help. I then started on 11.25mg of mirtazapine to help with my appetite and sleep. Now going to sertaline 25mg for anxiety (then upping to 50mg) and mirtazapine at night... how has the two worked out for you and are you still on both today?! Thank you.
Hi I have been prescribed sertraline and I am on 30mg of mitazapain I am very depressed ATM I have started my menopause so I am on femoston hrt the doc has given me 50mg of sertraline do you think I should start taking them together I am worried about it or do you think I should see another doctor first
Check it out on an interaction checker like d r u g s . com or google it and see what comes up - you may well be led back to this site.
There is a lot of talk about Estrogen replacement "naturally" for women who hit the menopause and feel depression, ask your doc or research that, its what Carol Vordaman took, although I guess she paid megga bucks, might be a more affordable version somewhere ~ just a though
Wishing you well.
The drug interactions checker will tell you that there are major interactions between these two drugs. It is better to listen to the advice of your doctor or Psych. I have been on 15mg of Mirtazapine to help with sleep for seven weeks (works wonders) and today just started on 50mg of Sertraline in the morning to lift the depression/anxiety as the Mirt wasn’t helping in this area. If I had followed the drug-checker advice I wouldn’t have done this combo but my doctor said it was Ok. Always follow your doctors or Psych’s advice (rather than things you read about on the internet). If things don’t work out go back to them and try again.
I would keep 1 in the morning and mirtazapine at nite, as prescribed. Especially if its working.
I've been on 200mg of sert for 18 months been feeling so bad Dr gave me 15mg of Mir to help my mood and sleep . Took it last night couldn't wake up . Does this improve ? To be honest my concern is weight increase. I struggle as it is to lose weight . Is this a problem for anyone else ?
Paula, i gained 40 lbs in about 4 months while on it. Been off 16 weeks and have lost 5lbs with workout, walk and 1 salad/day.
Yes
Its a very commonly prescribed combination particularly for treatment resistant depression or to improve sleep or anxiety in patients who are overstimulated by sertraline on its own.
The risk of serotonin syndrome is very low because Mirtazapine is not an SSRI and so has a different serotonin mechanism along with norepinephrine.
What dose are you on of each ?
Hi Paula, are you still on combination of Sertraline and Mirtazapine? Wondered how you are now?
Do UK docs approve of taking Mirtazapine and Setraline in combination or is this just in the US? I am taking M, but not finding it wholly effective. I used to be on Sertraline and found it okay but weaned myself off it and then had major depression, hence now on the Mirt. Quite like the idea of taking both drugs in combo. But wondering whether a UK doc would approve it?
Yes you can. I’ve been on Sert and Mirt combination since Sep’18
Hi Guys
have been on mirt for 12 years now. last 2 years went down to 15mg. Have been having quite some anxiety and my Psy said I should start Sertraline 50mg in the mornings and 15mg mirt at night.
please I need to know what to expect?
I take quetiapine, citalopram and mirtazipine all at the same time at night. I was advised to take the quetiapine and mirtazipine at night but I also take the citalopram then because I take omeprazole which shouldn’t be taken at the same time as other meds and I take this in the morning an hour before food. It just made it easier to take everything else on a night including my mini pill and Montelukast.
Is sertraline an SSRI? if it is, I don’t see any issue with it.
Hi, My GP has just put me on this combo today - so I was looking for further info and found this thread.
I on am on Mirtazipine 45mg (max dose) taken at night to help me sleep - started on 15mg in october then 30mg then 45mg as it was helping me cope but wasnt stopping or reversing the depression, so my GP has decided to try combining with Sertraline 50mg / folic acid 5mg / cyanocobalamin 50ug these apparently work together to make the sert more effective and lift mood.
I know these cant possibly working yet as its the very first time I have took them today but I actually feel normal, even slightly good. Is it possible for these to have an effect within hours?
I have just been put on sertaline 50mg with mirt 45mg on a night - sorry but your post suggests you have been on it for 8 weeks now - perhaps you could answer your own question for me.
sert is an SSRI
How are you doing on this combo now janz70? Hope they’re working for you?
Hi do you get any side effects from mirtazapine because im on 50mg setraline and just been prescribed mirtazapine to help me sleep
