I just would like some answers any would do on top of what I have which is er none! I have ptsd which was diagnosed 4ish years ago due to 2 lots of assault/rape which I endured when I was 19 and 25, if this wasn't bad enough it was swept under the carpet, by my family! I went to see a specialist counsellor yesterday, that I've seen for a while now and she mentioned how low and despondent I was, which I took to mean are you fed up? Well yes I am due to doctors dragging their heals to sort out an underlying health condition that was misdiagnosed over 10 years ago. My question is this (well 2 actually). Can persistent ill health drag your mood down? How do you distinguish the symptoms of ptsd with anxiety/ill health and can one of these affect the other? Please advise, I am not one for taking pills and would like a decent suggestion for an alternative if any one knows of such a thing. The counselling is good, frightening but really good, she's so understanding, but how can I continue when my physical health is so up and down. My doctor is ringing me on Monday, but you watch the usual clap-trap about anitdepressants will come out of her mouth, whereas if they did their job and sorted my physical health I'm sure my mental health would recover. Thanks.
Absolutely ill health can bring on depression. Keep working through both issues and I wish you well
Thank you Amy, I thought I was slowly losing my mind! I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday what should I say to her?
Hi Sam, if your struggling for what to say, can I make a suggestion that you make a list or you take your mobile (assuming you have emails) and show him/her your concerns. I do feel that persistent I’ll health can indeed affect your mental well being, but I’m not a medical professional and it is best they answer this question. Good luck!
Thanks Julia that's a really good idea, I thought I'd look like an idiot but I'd be stupid if I can't explain anything. I'll let you know how I get on.
May I make a suggestion? Before you go write down any symptoms you have, when you suffer them, and how often. Also how long each symptom has been going on. Also be clear what you want or expect your doctor to do ie if you want a blood test then ask for it. If refused ask the doctor to explain why. I do this now and it usually helps. Good luck and I hope you find some answers. x
Hi hypercat, I try to do this now as I struggle to remember what I need to say some days due to being dyslexic. I can be very blunt and honest with my doctor. When I need help I ask straight out these days I've struggled for too long. It's the physical side that need to directly sort now so I can cope with the pain. I am sure my mental health will recover if they sort the physical side. Well I hope so anyway. But thank you, I'll let you know how I get on.
