A few months ago I had keyhole surgery to find out what was wrong with my knee as scans were not showing any faults.
It turned out that I had no ACL (which I have just had reconstructed), damage cartilage (which they cleaned) and a small hole in my tibia.
I was told that this hole was probably cause by constant trauma to the knee, I however am not convinced. The shape looked to round and the position was directly behind my entrance wound. I had also never had pain in this position prior to the surgery.
It has now been 3-4 months since this first operation and 6 days since having my ACL reconstructed and I am getting a lot of pain from the position of the hole.
Is it possible for keyhole surgery to damage bone?
I was hopping that surgery would fix my weak knee that didn't give constant pain but since my first op pain is a daily problem
Many thanks,
Steve
Did you have the 3 hole type scope? Any kind of invasive technique can and generally will do nerve damage. Nerves are the slowest part of the anatomy to heal completely . it takes months not days and can residual pain for a long time. If there was any scraping or cleaning of tissue next to the bone its just another irritation of lasting consequences. Considering the fact they have to use a chisle to remove bone when doing a tkr I would doubt bone damage in acl repair.
Thanks for your reply. I understand that the nerves will take a long time to heal and there is a high possibility of this.
My main concern at the moment is the damage to the bone. Nothing showed on the original x-ray and then after the op I have a circular hole near my entry wound. Could this have been caused by the keyhole surgery.
I have been told that i will have this hole for the rest of my life and there is nothing they can do for it.
Sorry I can't be of any help on this. I've never heard of this before. I fell the day after my tkr revision and broke my femur. They had to insert a metal plate next to the bone and screw it in place with 8 screws, 4 of which went all the way through the bone. Originally they were going to leave it in the fest of my life but due to irritation, removed it after 10 months. That was 15 months ago. Recent xrays showed that the bone has completely healed and the holes left by the screws were filled in with little visable residue. I haven't had a bone scan for a different type view but have no pain in the bone. Only wish the adhesions and scar tissue had healed as well. Best whises for a complete recovery
