Before I start I know medication works differently with everyone, but a month ago I posted something about my symptoms of having anxiety which was basically: forgetfulness, my head altering and confusing things like for example, I could look at a bottle and my mind would say its a box then my mind kicks in and says, "no it isnt, are you going insane", another one is, brain fog, and my perception of things have changed so badly like its not right what I think, my behaviours irrational, im not thinking properally and im making myself look dumb, I sometimes get shooting pains around my body and I feel vacant in my own body. Im processing things alot slower, it kills me, I wanna be able to function normally, I cant deal with this pain. I tried meditation and it doesnt work, my mind doesnt just shut off for one minute, it does my head in, and iv asked about medication and I need a full assessment before I take anything because of my age. Now im wondering, will medication help relieve these symptoms? Will I function properly, mentally, im not saying its a cure but wat im saying is i need something to relieve these symptoms, I wanna be me again. Im still waiting for therapy sessions, but can someone tell me about their experiences and how its helped them, I just hope and the will power.
Your viewing medication incorrectly, it doesn't act like a painkiller on pain. It is intended as a short term aid while the root cause of the problem is addressed. Many misuse them and expect the meds to do all the work, unfortunately these people end up back here wondering why the meds don't work. Therapy is the best route if you want to make lasting changes
I understand that, but the thing is, my gp explained that my neurotransmitters are blocked, therefore the medication open those blocked up transmitters and allows me to think properly, ill be getting CBT aswell along side the meds hopefully, this will help me train the mind and kick myself back into gear (both CBT and meds).im not acting like it will cure everything, I do sometimes feel blocked, like I cant take anything in. But im definitely taking the therapy root to tackle underlining causes.
To be honest, there's no way your GP can know that, absolutely no way, sounds like mumbo jumbo to be honest. Therapy will definitely serve you better
Hi Nicole,
I think jmcg is right. Your doctor isn't giving you very useful or accurate information.
However, having all the symptoms you describe suggests very strongly that anxiety is at the root of your problems.
you're doing the right thing in getting therapy. In conjunction with medication there is a high rate of improvement.
i do understand that you're feeling low at the moment. Stay on the forum for support.
Your meds could take about three months to help you fully.
