My sister is getting married in the Bahamas next year. I haven't been on a plane since I was 7.
My Ménière's is a constant thing as in some only suffer vertigo when they have an episode (as do I) but I suffer constant daily off balance and dizziness. I have terrible anxiety due to my daily dizziness and I'm afraid being in a plane is going to make it worse. I haven't flown because of this and bc of the fact that I don't like being closed in.
I'm also scared that I'm still going to feel like I'm on a plane when I get off the plane which will make me miserable for the entire trip. I feel that way when I leave an ocean, pool, or boat so I'm afraid it's going to be the same. If I get off the plane for a connecting flight, will I be too sick to get back on the other?
Any advice? I'm freaking out trying to figure out what to do. This is a lot of money to take a chance so any advice will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Talk to your Ear Dr.I used to have Menieres Disease, I had a Surgery called an labrinthectomy. But before that I was on Meclazine for the dizziness.and it helped for a while.Good Luck.
Everyone is going to be different, but I love to fly.. The pressure opens up my eustachian tubes and I lose the fullness in my heard. I also can have a normal conversation on an airplane because my hearing improves.
But as I have learned with this catch all disease everyone is different.
Good luck
You should have no problem flying unless you are also prone to motion sickness. If so, pretreating with a little dramamine will help there. Flying involves problems with the middle ear, MD with the inner. I have had MD for 2 years and have flown several times and have had no problems (except for issues with all the walking in the darn airport). I will carry a decongestant with me in case I do get congested while flying as it tends to make for some discomfort. Just be sure to keep hydrated if it is a long flight. Enjoy the trip,
I have Menieres and have suffered from motion sickness my whole life (worse in recent years). I get car sick and can't go in any sort of boat. I feel totally fine when flying, however. Someone, I think on this forum, noted that if you can go on a train, you'll be okay on a plane. I tend to agree. Just to be totally safe, and to calm your nerves, I wonder if you could take a Lorazepam before your flight? I take it for vertigo and it also helps with anxiety. I believe that it also may help some with motion sickness (I did a quick Google search of my own about this before my own flight last week)! Good luck and I hope you go. I hate that this illness has the power to limit us sometimes.
