Has anyone experienced a rise in BP whilst reducing citalopram?
Thanks
Hi,
Since these drugs are messing around with the hormones, and the body is trying to gain a new homeostasis during either on or off it, you could face all sorts of problems!
In any case, you should address medically this problem, if it goes on.
Best regards
Thanks Kostas
I monitor my BP at home and it was a little higher than normal today. I read that celexa dilates blood vessels so I guess reducing them might make blood vessels contract which could explain the rise in BP?
Hi again,
either this or by affecting the hormones that regulate the BP!
Any way if it is due to the drug, it should be corrected as soon as the body regain its new homeostasis.
Take care
Hi Kostas
I just have to keep my eye on it. The last thing I want is to worry about BP.
Many thanks
my bp is up and down while on it, but only been on it 3 months
Hi John
It's something I never made a connection with before. It was only something I read recently whilst looking up withdrawal symptoms.
Hopefully yours will steady in time given the reasons Kostas mentioned.
Hope all is going well for you.
Best wishes
thanks lina, keep battling on
Hi Lina, my bp rose when I was coming off amitryptyline and am expecting the same thing to happen when I taper off citalopram. It was only temporary and lasted a few days with each taper, went up to 155/106 very scary. My doctor told me to contact them if the lower reading went over 110. Other than that my bp is normal. Glad I have a machine at home.
Hi Paulafreeatlast
Thanks for replying to my post. Yes, keeping a machine at home is handy. I get white coat syndrome so I always take a reading before I visit my GP because it's always lower at home than at the surgery.
I started doing pressure points and controlled breathing and I think it helped. My BP is ok now.
I'm a couple of months in on reduced dose of 5mg from 10 mgs. I've had a really good day today, not symptom free but the best day so far. I'm hoping this is the start of stabilizing on 5mgs but only tomorrow will tell. I've nearly given in several times It's been that bad.
It's reassuring when other people have similar experiences.
Hope all goes well for you when you start reducing.
Best wishes
Hi
Well that was short lived. Feeling grotty again today. Really fed up of the yo yo effect withdrawing is having on me.
It's been about two months now and I am wondering whether I should cede and increase my dose. Can anyone advise me if I do increase what too expect? Will I be worse off than I am now?
Thanks everyone
