had an outbreak about 3 months ago. Two small blisters around my anus. I didn't know what it was the first time so i didn't take anything. About two weeks ago i had the same outbreak in the same area and i was prescribed acyclovir and they went away within a couple days. I was reading that valcyclovir is way better but more expensive. I just want to make sure that acyclovir will take care of the problem or should I get valcyclovir. Can someone please help me with this?
It's essentially the same thing, but valacyclovir is better at delivering more of the drug, since it is converted to acyclovir internally and has better absorption as a result. That's why the dosage is less, which is another reason why it's preferred. More convenient for people to take and delivers more of the drug. The main issue is cost and convenience. Having said that, some people feel they have more success with one over the other (usually valacyclovir), which is odd given the above!
It's so expensive though and I don't have insurance. I have a discounted pharmacy card that maybe I should try. I have also been taking a teaspoon of coconut oil daily. I read it helps with the immune system. Is there anything else I can take that will help suppress future outbreaks? I have only been diagnosed since May so i still don't know what to expect.
Acyclovir is also fine if it works, and if you don't mind the extra dosage. It's the most established and studied of the three HSV drugs.
There's no special supplement, oil or whatever. Main thing is to stay healthy, so eat a balanced diet (no need to cut any specific foods), maybe take vitamins. Coconut oil gets good reviews, but so do other things like honey, prop0lis, olive leaf extract, etc.
Yes you are right about other oils being good too. Thank you so much for your feedback i really appreciate it.
