I sometimes get tension headaches where it starts of as a horrible dull ache in the back of my neck and these can last for hours and sometimes I get them a few times a week.
The last few days, I have had a painful throbbing headache with bad pain behind my left eye. If I stand up quickly or when I'm laying down, it's a lot worse. It feels like my head will explode or my eyes are about to pop out. My doctor keeps saying that it's all stress related, but this headache is different to my normal ones and although I can go about my daily routine, it's starting to really bother me. I feel like I can't live like this. Nurofen seems to take the edge off and my doctors say that I don't show any worrying signs.
Is this headache normal for someone suffering from stress and anxiety?
Yes completely, although you should always rule out obvious things like getting eyes tested and stuff, keep a diary of them, or try taking some migraine tablets if they are that bad, but stress/anxiety can cause some bad headaches, pains and lots of other physical stuff .
Hello there. I feel your pain. I get head aches same as you have described. They are definately stress related. If i get one i take soluble parocetomol. They work faster. Also i drink 2 litres of diluted pop or water a day. This will help a lot. Work is what mainly triggers my head aches so i go and have a cup of tea out the way if i feel myself geting mega stressed. I suppose it depends what you do for work. If a head ache is very very bad like the one you described above your left eye then the only thing you can do is put something cold on your head and go to bed. I would recommend trying ways of not geting so stressed. Look on google for natural remedies to reduce anxiety and stress.hope this helps.
Hi, it sounds like a classic stress-related headache. When we are tense our shoulders stiffen up. This spreads into the neck and then causes pain in the head.
Oddly, I woke up with exactly the same symptoms on New Years Day, so thought I must have been sleeping at an awkward angle. I didn't have my usual cuppa immediately, making phonecalls first, and it progressed into the most awful pain above and behind my right eye, with pain and stiffness in my right shoulder and neck, with nausea too. It was slightly relieved by having some tea and I then realised it was a hangover, caused by drinking half a bottle of past-its-best bubbly (the only alcohol I had all night).
It seems these symptoms can be caused by physical strain as well as mental stress. I am often hunched over my laptop and it has the same effects. Many years ago I slipped several neck discs so there is now a weakness there. With those the head pain is generally on the opposite side to the affected swollen discs. Anti-inflammatories, such as Ibuprofen, are the only drugs that work, but massaging the neck and shoulders can help.
PS...I have always been long-sighted (but not needed glasses) but I had to get reading glasses 2 years ago as it was discovered that the sight in my right eye has become even longer. If I strain that eye it will also give me pain above and around it. So, although your symptoms sound like classic stress, I suggest you also get your eyes tested in case there have been any changes.
