Can't stop sleeping after Tonsilitis

Hi, I am just getting over tonsilitis, usually I am fit and well but had been feeling run down prior to catching tonsilitis. However, for the past 3 days I simply cannot stay awake for more than a few hours and have a continuous headache and neck ache. Is this just part of the recovery from tonsilitis or something else.

Hi Sarah

You are so lucky to get sleep. I know it's not what you need to hear. Are you on any medication for your tonsilitis? If you are, then maybe it is them that are making you feel sleepy.

Sorry I can't help any further. Hope you get some helpful answers soon.

Hi Sarah, I think if the headache and neck pain are continuing even though you seem to be getting more sleep than normal , then, you should really see your GP for a further check up. Sometimes being on painkillers over a long period can cause a type of re-bound headache ( being caused by the pills themselves). Do hope you get some answers soon? Best wishes Marion

Hi Bee70, I am on a course of antibiotics to be taken once every 12 hours. The sleeping has started to ease off now but instead I have terrible aches throughout my body which have been waking me up. I'm guessing its just the different phases of recovery from Tonsilitis.

Hi Marion,

The pain killers (paramol) certainly gave me a headache so I stopped taking them 3-4 days ago and switched to plain paracetamol. Unfortunately the aching is still there and has since spread throughout my body - especially my legs. (On the plus side... my throat is much better so I'm hoping this is just another phase of recovery).
