Hello, I have a question that you all may be able to answer, I have arthritus in bith knees which I have known about for some time now but approx four months ago I got a sharp pain in my left hip and it has got worse overtime so much so I am limping quite badly, some it tends to be a constant burning pain then sharp pains a few times aday, now I though It must be arthritus and I am off to see a consultant tomorrow but a friend of mine pointed out it could be fibo as I also have neck and shoulder pain and now my ankle is aching I sound like a hypocondriac but I promise I am not just confused if it is likley then I would like to raise it tomorrow at the hospital so any advice would be amazing and Thanks in advance xxxx
It certainly would help to advise the specialist/s of 'ALL' your constant or quite prominent pain issues and how often they pain you and how. It does help to write all these things down as it isn't uncommon to forget issues and points once there and getting side tracked in conversation etc... All the very best.
ps: I had a good friend who was seriously afficted with Rhuematoid Arthritis and she also had Fibro...
Hi sandeevie. There is a possibility that you may have developed fibromyalgia, specifically as you mention neck and shoulder pain. It's also however possible that you have further OA in your hip as once one or more joints are affected by it, the cartilage in other joints also suffers. It's definitely worth mentioning the other areas where you are experiencing pain at your hospital appointment. It will be fairly straightforward for them to determine if you have arthritis in the hip but the shoulder/neck and ankle pain should be investigated too. Pain is unfortunately a fluid beast and once you have pain issues due to arthritis, it does tend to spring up elsewhere also. It could be the spread of OA, it could be fibro or it could just be that the nerves are reacting to inflammation elsewhere in your body. I hope you find a solution for it. In the meantime, take anti inflammatories and try some relaxation exercises, as tension will just heighten it. Good luck tomorrow hon. xx
Thanks Loxie, Hopefully I will find out something it is not knowing that is the worse xx
Thanks Deb97936 I will do that x
Very true hon, that's the issue many people have with fibro, that it takes a very long time to get any definitive answers. It's understandable really because fibro is a complex indeterminate pain syndrome and doctors obviously must rule out other better known and more distinct causes first. I had another thought in the meantime. I have severe OA in one ankle and also in both thumbs. Sometimes I suffer aches and pains elsewhere in the body purely because my gait and posture are wrong due to compensating for the ankle. I find if I do some stretching exercises or something like chi gung or tai chi, or gentle swimming, it eases all the other muscles and the pain subsides to a great extent. Nothing much I can do about the ankle except keep the inflammation at bay but tension in the muscles elsewhere in the body can be relieved and made less painful fairly simply. Here's hoping you get good news tomorrow. xx
HI Sandeevie Hope all goes well at the hospital for you tomorrow. I agree with the other comments and tell who ever your seeing tomorrow how your feeling and the pains you have and where they are. It may be a good idea to write everything down so you dont leave anything out. its normally a rheumatologist that diagnoses fibro and thats after all other conditions have been ruled out. The rheumatologist i saw sent me for abone scan more bloods and he did a pressure point test all over my body. their are 18 pressure points I got the full 18.it rheumatologist I saw wanted to rule out rhematoid arthritus. take care gentle hugs
Hi Sandeevie. Good luck at the hospital tomorrow
And have a ((((((((HUG))))))))))) to go with
Afternoon Ladies, Been to hospital and They think I may have torn a Nerve in my lower back, I have to have a MRI and if this shows nothing they will investigate for Fibro! So have to wait and see, Thank you all again for all your help and support you have no idea how much it helped yesterday

Thank you for letting us know how you got on, having the mri will either rule the torn nerve in or out. if they are going to investiage for fibro if nothing shows then that is something positive.Hope its not too long before you haveto wait for the mrI appointment and hopeing you get some answears soon take care gentle hugs
