Can this really be anxiety?

I’ve not really been an anxious person, only in situations when it’s normal to be anxious. I’ve not felt right for 6 months and doctors say I am fine and can’t find a cause for why I feel so bad. Some days I can go all day feeling nearly okay, other days I feel awful all day. I get different symptoms these are some of them:

Shooting pains in head.

Normal headaches

Feel like the side of my mouth is drooping

Chest pains

Irregular heartbeats

Lightheaded

Feel like I’m in a dream

Dizzy

Heavy arms/pains/pins and needles

Diarrhoea

Breathlessness

Can this all be anxiety even though I only feel anxious because I’ve been feeling so bad? I have had many heart monitors, head ct, lung ct, chest x Ray, heart echo, blood tests for everything. Don’t know what to do

Annie,

Im suffering from almost all of the symptoms you described. I too can’t believe that it’s anxiety as all my tests have came back clear also.

Something in the back of my mind says I have some sort of heart problem, but all my results have came back normal so I’m having to accept that it’s anxiety.

Very strange that our minds can do this to us, but it’s the strongest thing of the lot.

Hang in there and hopefully we get over it in the end!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. Do you get different symptoms different days? At the moment I have a pain one side of my head, feel like my mouth is dropping but it isn’t and feel like I’m in a dream. Can’t believe anxiety can cause all this especially when I don’t really feel anxious! I hope you start to feel better very soon x

Hi Annie,

I am due to see a neurologist in the next month so cannot say for absoluteky sure but from your list i would say definately experience the following:-

Lightheaded

Feel like I’m in a dream

Dizzy

GP run some tests on me and found nothing wrong, I seem to get these symptoms in environments where am not happy which points towards anxiety. At home or chilled out, no problems at all.

Definitely is anxiety! It's amazing what anxiety can cause, feeling like you are in a dream is derealization your mind is very tired from the anxiety and has gone into safe mode, this is why you are experiencing a dream state. Ask for help for your anxiety from gp x

Hi pamela,

One of the problems I have noticed is, if you confide in someone and tell them that you think anxiety is causing these problems - they generally do not understand and acutally seem to think you are making it up or talking nonsense. The problem for me seems real, recently whilst attending a football match (surrounded by people - some were quite agressive) I literally had to hold onto my seat from fear of falling and felt all over the place. However whilst going to the cinema (where it was quieter / more relaxed) felt fine.

Yeah anxiety is not a nice thing to go through, it's a lonely place to be! Have you considered medication?

I was prescibed with 'Stemetil' (I think ?) by my GP but stopped taking them after a few months as I was still feeling bad and referred instead to neuroligist. Appointment is next month let's see how it goes...

All the best to any posters dealing with the same issues, it's horrible

Yeah I have different things everyday, so it’s difficult to know if it’s actually something wrong or if it is “just” anxiety, I’m not playing anxiety down as I’d say this is definitely the most difficult thing I’ve ever faced!

Thankyou everyone for your replies. Nice to know I’m not alone but I’m sorry you are all going through the same thing. Hopefully one day we can manage this and live better lives x
