Hi dani,I was diagnosed with Hiatus hernia and ulcers in 2013 and tested for Pylori but came back negative so my ulcers are caused by acid and not bacteria.I was put on omeprozole but after 2 years and feeling nausius all the time had another endoscopy only to find no change.asked if i could alter my drugs and was put on Ranitidine 2 pills per day felt a little better on these but still not right, but over the last two weeks i have altered a couple of things which have made a big difference.(1)I don,t eat anything after my evening meal at about 6-30 so my stomach gets a rest at night (2)and this has been the bigest change I chew spearmint chewing gum after each meal, this makes saliva which neutralises the acid and i have now dropped to half a pill per day with no after effects.I have only been doing this for 2 weeks so I will have to wait to see if long term there is an improvement as i go to see the specialist in August.Hope this will help you and any one else that reads it.I would like any feed back from any one who tries the gum to see if it has helped hem.
Hi, did the specialist say what might be causing the ulcers?
Unfortunately I have spent a lot of time on google during the last week and have worried myself I have anxiety and came across Zollinger Ellison Syndrome and even though it is extremely rare I'm worried I may have this. I don't take much medication, maybe 1-2x a month for pain if that and I don't have h pylori so if my specialist finds an ulcer I'm wondering what could have caused. As usually ulcers are caused by hyplori or medications.
Hi dani,I see the specialist at the end of August but as far as I know I just seem to produce a lot of acid which dammage the tissue dont know if this causes the ulcers or just aggravates them I,ll just wait and see what they find.I,m still chewing gum and find this helps a lot but I will say this try not to worry as anxiety causes a lot of needless problems and to be quite honest it dosent help matters also googling makes you think of all sorts of problems so i dont do that know.good luck hope things get sorted, let us know if you do argzxoni.
I am in the same boat as you! I thought i was going crazy thought was the only person who had ulcers not caused by h pylori. I had an endoscopy done about 4 months ago and had multiple biopsy taken to test for cancer, zollinger ellison, h pylori etc (all negative thankfully),. The endoscopy showed ulcers in the antrum and duodenal with grade B acid reflux (never got heartburn in my life) The gastrodoc said it is caused by acid and put me on ppi 40mg once a day for 3 months. I just started my tapper off the ppi to h2 and havent seen any change in medicine relief (both working good). I do sometimes get a burning sensation when I get hungry so I am a little worried my ulcers havent healed. I have read that while healing should be done in 2 months it can take up a very long time to be back to normal so im keeping positive attitude. I am due back for an endoscopy in 1 month hopefully its all great. The things I do that seem to help: do not eat 3 hours before sleep (like you), avoid alcohol, spicy, fried, greasey foods, exercise 3-4 times a week.
Hi vergil glad to hear things are going ok,it can take quite a while for things to settle and more or less return to normal, the PPI didn,t work for me even after 2 years they are not right for every one.Now on ritidine and feeling better.See specialist 25th August so should know more after that, still chewing my gum after each meal it seems to work killing off the acid.let me know how you go on after the next endoscopy, good luck
