can you have abdominal hernia surgery after having pulmonary embolism

Does anyone know if within a year after having an pulmonary embolism if you can have hernia repair surgery. ?

Hi..do let me know if you find out. I am waiting to

see a surgeon for a hernia in my abdominal area

(diastasis recti) and ive suddenly ended up at tjis very moment in hospital with pulmonary embolism.   I really want to get rid of this hernia as it makes me look heavily pregnant and I hate it.

I am not a doctor. I am a patient with a history of recurrent multiple PE's so I am no expert and everybody's circumstances are different and sometimes complicated but I believe that with careful management surgery may be possible. You may have to stop the Warfarin and restart the Enoxaparin injections for the procedure and post operative  recovery time. For high risk patients the is a small device that can be implanted into your vena cava; it is called an IV Filter (inferior vena cava filter). This device looks like the skeleton of a partially opened umbrella that potentially catches any clots. I don't know how often this procedure is used or what the success rate is but I was initially offered this when I required surgery following my PE's. On my surgeon's advice I opted not to have surgery as I was too high risk taking in my other medical conditions. When you see your consultant you can discuss all options available to you. Good luck.

Hi- only just joined this group so hope this is not too late for you; my PE followed a hernia operation which actually didn't work so I had to have another 14 months on form the PE. It was fine- just had to make sure the doctors put me on heparin beforehand; make sure the hospital is aware that you have had a PE- i found dealing with the fear that I might have another PE the worst part of the op
