Can you perform oral sex if both you and your partner have HSV2?

I'm not sure if its safe to perform oral when both I and my boyfriend have HSV2. I know it's unlikely to get HSV1 when you have HSV2 but I just want to be careful. Can anyone tell me is this safe or not?

From what I' read you can get both Herpes 1&2 in mouth or genital. Since you both already have HSV2 how can you get it again., unless you only have it in genitial, then you can get it oral too. I tested positive for HSV 1&2 , but don't know if have it both oral or genitial.  Supposedly if you take antiviral meds it's reduces chance of infecting sex partner by 50%. If you wear a condom that should reduce risk some more.  If you both have no signs or symptoms what's the fuss

I mean if both you guys have it, then you know theres no chance in passing it on. it wont do anything to you if u already have it and so does he, but lets say he has an outbreak and you dont, i suggest you just dont kiss/ perform oral sex cause it might cause you to get an outbreak.

hsv2 is a different variation of the hsv virus than what hsv1 is. You can get both hsv1 and hsv2 both orally and genitally.

hsv2 doesnt mean genital only, and that performing oral with a hsv2 outbreak will lead to hsv1 on the mouth; What will happen is you will get hsv2 orally as well.

Hsv2 prefers the genitals over the mouth so not as many outbreaks are likely to happen if you contract hsv2 orally, but they can happen.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Ashlie

It makes perfect sense. Thanks Angelpiece

It is unlikely you'll have both HSV1 and HSV2. However, both are responsible for oral and genital herpes, it is a common misconception to think that type 1 is strictly oral and type 2 is just genital. It is common in relationships to have both oral and genital outbreaks
