Hello, my partner has been having the worst time with anxiety, panic and depression for over a year now. He's been on several tablets and the latest is upping his 10mg of Escitalopram to 20mg. However his doctor has said he needs to come off his 7.5g of Mirtazapine which he takes at night to help him sleep.
Personally I think this is a bad idea, sleeping (or lack of) is one of the biggest problems he has and the Mirt really helps him.
I'm just wondering if anyone is taking 20mg of Escitalopram with Mirt?
His doctor is pretty useless and won't give him a straight answer.
Hi Sarah, thanks for the response. Have you taken the two together and if so, what dosage? Did you have any bad side effects to begin with? Many thanks, Alanna
I agree, it is a bad idea to expect anyone to "STOP" Mirtazapine at 7.5 mg, need to taper right down slowly to 0. 10% every 3 to 4 weeks.
You can look for any interactions of any drugs on a site called d r u g s . co m ...
I'm no medic, but I would think of your partners worst problems I would stick with the Mirt and skip the Escitalopram and seek therapy, talking therapies, mindfulness, or mindfully based CBT. Having Mirt to help with the sleep during therapy will be a big help because we can of course get mentally stirred up during any therapy.
In MHO, AD's can be very useful whilst be analyse the cause of any major depression, I think the idea that depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance has a few holes in it nowadays, we need to train our thoughts, accept and allow imperfection, brain train away from negativity, etc. So yes, Mirt' can be very helpful, but be careful not to let the medics put us under the sedative cosh if it can be helped a little.
I'd get your husband to get off the mirt Asap. That drug gave me Anxiety, never had it before.
Coming off the mirt at any stage will still cause you problems with your thoughts and insomnia and all the other ailment's etc.
My advice would be too stay on the other SSRI and ask for help with Zopiclone for sleep and Diazepam for anxiety for a short time until you get thru it.Get a psychiatrist and ask to be prescribed an Anti-Histamine called Promethazine 25gm ( Phenergan b ) it really works for my sleep and now I'm on Sertraline 100mg but not got any anxiety like I had on mirt.Good luck
The same thing happened to me I never suffered from anixety in my life until I was put on mirtazapine,I kept telling doc this Jed was causing more harm than good , they just kept upping the dose until I got to 45mg it was a nightmare
glad to say im off mirtazapine coming close to 13wks
never will I ever touch mirtazapine again nor would I recommend it to anyone
