Is it normal for your period to give me more panic attacks and anxiety symptoms?
My past 3 periods I have had I have realised that I have been suffering from chest pains which I get all the time anyway but even worse? This happens exactly the day before I come on and through out.
The past two periods I have been suffering from proper sharp pains and headaches but only in certain areas of the head (mainly the left side though) these headaches can be very intense, usually happens half way of my period. However, this time it has gave me other symptoms including tingling in my left arm which then leads to my hand and fingers, this occurred after having head pains all day. It would then stop but then my head ache would come back, and now I feel lightheaded, drowsy and nauseous. My mouth and left side of my face also felt numb and tingly. This has actually happened once before and I went doctors and she just said it was a migraine with aura, but I was wondering if anxiety can cause symtoms like this?
Hi jess , yes anxiety can cause all these sensations and symptoms and many more, in fact i posted this same exact topic myself a little while back because i was experiencing headaches , weird head things amoung other sensations a week toward my period up until a few days after my period ... to make sure I wasn't alone or was sickly or something , i reached out to see if any other women had went through these things as well and come to find out a lot of women experience , and yes there were a lot of women going through this same thing as you and I , its the hormones they are sky high around this time which makes the anxiety worse and it sucks !!!
I get exactly those symptoms it's when your muscles are tensing up and adrenalin is pumping through your body I practised mindfulness and my symptoms are getting less and less I have generalised anxiety disorder and have had it most of my adult life and it's quite liberating that I'm finally stating to feel better but mine also got worse during my cycle probably because your hormones are all over the place which effects your mood which in turn effects your thought's which can be negative which sets your fight or flight mode into action
Hi Jess
Yes anxiety can cause the symptoms you mentioned, I literally experience every single one you've listed and the similarities are scary haha.
As for your period making it worse, definitely! I don't know if you sometimes might find you get more emotional during your periods (you may get irritated easily or saddened by silly little things). But the reason most girls get more emotional, and the reason our anxiety spikes during periods, is because your hormones are all over the place. And not only this, but also just the general crappy feeling of being in pain/being unwell I find spikes my anxiety too - whether it be my period or even just a cold.
Try not to worry about the heightened state of anxiety during this time as it's completely normal! However, I can't give you any advice on how to deal with the physical symptoms as I'm still looking for a remedy myself
Best of luck x
