Hi Hope someone can help on this matter, some 4 wks ago was prescribed Mit for depression/grief, llost my mum last oct still not coping. my days are up and down, thought joining the gym would help two fold, keep me occupied and lose the pounds i gained from comfort eating, i am now eating healthy and go to the gym every other day but have not lost an ounce. cant deal with this on top of everything else, doctor first prescribed Sertraline but it did not agree with me. please help

hi

so sorry about your mum it must be so hard. I have been on mirtazapine a few times and am just starting to reduce dosage with a view to coming off. My weight gain has been a real problem but rest assured that when you come off the weight will sort it out. I would have never believed it but it did last time so it will again ,just try to concentrate on feeling better first the rest will follow

Debbie is right you must concentrate on giving the Mirt a chance to do its job.

Regarding the weight gain this is a well know problem. I am a personal trainer and nutritionist and train 6 days a week. I too soon found that it was near damn impossible to even stay even regarding body fat percentage.

It is due to messing with your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and also affecting leptin and the way our cells use glucose for energy.

If the Mirt does it's primary job well enough stick with it. If not you will get there even though it seems an uphill struggle sometimes. If you need options discuss them with your Doc always.

Stu.

Thanks guys, is there anything I can do other than come off them, don't want to waste over £30 a month for it to do nothing,

The mirt doesn't seem to have kicked in(4 weeks) , low and high days, very irratic don't know from one day to the next, I am seeing a bereavement councillor also but only been once so that is early days. Do you think lowering the dose - I am taking 15mg people tell me the side effects wear off is that true?
