Im 4 months post op, total R hip replacement, uncemented bcos I'm 48.
I'm in the pool and gym most days now.
But still cannot do 1 movement, raising my knee causes me screaming pain?
The muscle responsible for this is the illio psoas apparently and through a bit of research, it seems it can have a bursitis -its inflamed?
Has anyone else experienced this bcos my physio has not come across it?
It is so painful that I can't climb stairs 1 at a time.
And I'm so fed up bcos i can do everything else now.
Yes, but in my non op leg which was having to compensate for me limping with the bad one. Couldn't lift my leg more than 3 inches off the floor, was having to go up stairs sideways and driving was agony ! I'm afraid the only thing I found to get it better was rest. It took 10 weeks before I could start to move my leg more normally and even then if I over did it the pain and soreness returned. 👣
Hi Jackie,
My understanding is that with some surgical approaches they will release [cut] the illiac/psoaz muscle hen doing the THR and reattach in closing. If this is the case it might be the source of your pain. Those are two very deep, very core muscles and can be difficult to heal/strengthen. How much confidence do you have in your physio therapist? I'd find someone not familiar with this condition to be negligent and would likely find someone else. I would also have a discussion with the surgeon who did your hip to determine if either of the muscles were released during surgery and insist on an MRI to either confirm they are undamaged or at the root of the pain. You really need to press for resolution and advocate strongly for yourself and refuse to accept any level of unaccountability. Best wishes.
Jim
Thank you .
I will contact the surgeon. Great advice .
