Can't sleep - 100mg Sertraline. How long does this last?

Oh yes, the Manuka. I remember you mentioning that.....thanks.

Wine.Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I found some on Amazon which had many good reviews. The ones that I ordered are 5HTP.

I ordered them off Amazon. I found some called 5HTP which had many very good reviews. They arrived today. I'll keep you posted as to how well they work.

Thank you. I tried Valerian and it did nothing, even at maximum doseage.

I think I have heard of 5HTP. I use Helthspan Supplements and I'm sure they do these.

I found out that taking the 5HTP along with Sertraline is not advised, so I've ordered Kirkland Sleep Aid tablets. Apparently they're antihistamine based and work really well. Here goes!

funny you say that about manufacturers: Im in an argument with my mental health “professional” about this and she will not believe me!

Ive been on Sertraline for 8 weeks and started at 25mg. First three days I was so dizzy and sick that I almost gave up, but after figuring it might get better and realising I may go through it again when I raised the dose to 50mg, I decided to raised my dose immediately. The next day my eyes were blurred, my head ached and I felt wired. My mood improved MASSIVELY but wow did I feel awful.

When I mentioned to the Health Care person that in the past I’d had bad experiences with generic Fluoxitine but branded Prozac was really good, I was told that “it makes no difference as it’s the same drug”, which if you read the box, as you did, you can see it really isn’t!

I’ve also had a bad time with Sumatriptan generics but not with branded Immigran; genuine Oxycontin works brilliantly but Longtech (generic) makes me itch and doesn’t kill pain, etc. Even the esomeprazole generics are rubbish and do nothing while the branded version works like magic.

It seems, looking at the NHS flow chart for prescribing SSRI and anti depressants that Sertraline is cheap - that’s the only reason they try it first: price! Generics, even if they are useless are given preference when prescribing simply because they are cheap!

My side effects are: blurred vision, optical migraines (wavy lines, floating shapes, coloured zig -zags), bruxism to the point I’m cracking my teeth and find eating difficult because my jaw aches so much… I also can’t sleep at all - I take 100mg at 7am and by 3:00am I am still wide awake and rattling round the house. I feel as if I’ve had 10 of the world’s strongest espresso shots mixed with a shot of adrenalin. I’m not anxious at all - I feel good actually. Normally I’m awake and fretting about death, or going over things that happened 30 year ago! I am anxious and have suffered badly with depression, chronic sadness, chronic pain (from a near fatal spinal injury) stress, acid flux, tension etc. since I was 8 years old (I’m 48 now). Sertraline makes me
feel genuinely happy, it also removes my obsessive thoughts and constant reliving of ancient history (events I can’t change) night after night. It’s like a miracle - sadly it makes my head ache, stops me seeing anything clearly (can’t read easily either) and males me feel ill. I’ve also gained weight making me have to eat very carefully these past few weeks.

I wonder if another brand might have fewer side effects? The benefits of improved mood are too good to abandon easily and I’ve tried a LOT of other drugs without success. Sertraline is the only drug that helps my mood and anxiety - others make me angry, or fat or knock me out or can’t be taken with my other meds.

There must be a way to make
my body tolerate Sertraline better.
