Hi all. I had carpal and cubital tunnel surgery last Thursday. I am so frightened it hasn't worked. I had 6 months of agonising nerve pain before I was diagnosed. Even then they were unsure as they think my shoulder is affected too! I have tingling in my hand and a totally numb middle finger. My stitches are very tender. Is this normal? I am on gabopentin which I start reducing from today so I suppose I will soon know. Could the tingling be part of the healing process. I am living in fear and hope!!
They operated on both wrist and elbow at the same time? Hopefully there were some nerve conduction studies beforehand. COme and discuss it with me on carpal-tunnel.net. Dr J Bland
Yes nerve conduct ions done although they showed mild nerve trap meant. Physio assessment done who said condition was very severe and nerve studies not reliable in my case as prob aggravated by movement. Will visit your site thanks.
Hi Allison,
After my cts I did have numbness and tingling and wondered if the surgery worked. It went away and I haven't had any of my old problems again. Hopefully the same will be for you. On the other hand, I wished my doctor would have performed the cubital surgery because my pinky finger is still numb often.
Hi Alison,
I am post opp 6 weeks and am worse off, having mild CP and now with two numb fingers and pain in hand/wrist and arm up to shoulder. Wish i never had it done as no guarentee when nerves will mend if at all. Having hand therapy and waiting for another nerve test! Very down!
Oh dear I'm sorry to hear that. I had little tbh as the pain I had was crippling and severe ( and I've given birth 3 times!!) rang hospital today. They were really helpful. They said for some people the healing process is very long ( 6-8weeks at least) pins, needles and numbness not uncommon. The fact my numbness was not immediate is hopeful and hopefully down to bruising. Immediate numbness is more of a worry. It's a waiting game now. I am anxious as I can not bear the thought of going back to the pain I was in before x
That's really good to hear, thank you x
