Hi,
I have very high prescription and using hard gas permiable lense for last 45+ years. Now, being 62 and having mild to moderate cataract i am ready for cataract surgery. But need to find the best surgeon who did the cataract surgery for patients with high prescriptions.
I am in Bergen county, NJ - northern new jersey.
Thanks,

I am in Canada and cannot suggest any surgeons. However here are a couple of points to watch for:
.
- You need to get very accurate measurements of your eye done. The IOLMaster 700 is probably the best instrument for measurements. But, the Lenstar 900 is supposed to be very good too. You could ask what the clinic you are considering uses.
- Some formulas for IOL power calculation are better than others. The Hill-RBF 3.0 is a very good one, and the Barrett Universal II is also said to be very accurate. I would ask them to use more than one formula and to give you a copy of the measurements and the predicted power. You want to see both formulas predicting the same power with close to the same residual error.
- Most importantly find out early how long you have to discontinue using your contacts before your eyes are measured. Contacts, and especially hard ones change the shape of your eye. You want the measurements done when your eye is in it’s natural shape. I believe soft contacts are to be not used for a week before, and hard ones are longer, perhaps a month or more.
