cataract surgeons

I would like to find a top Eye Cataract Specialist for a 2nd opinion. Would appreciate any info on that .

,I had cataract surgery beginning of June. My eye has been uncomfortable ever since. I have been back to see the surgeon twice and the scans (he says) show my eye is ok It was done at the Southampton General Eye Clinic.

however, it is always watering, and the wind is now having a dramatic effect on it. I have bought some 'wrap around' sunglasses from M&S, because I just could not find any in the opticians that came around the sides tight enough. My eye is often aching. I have been give HYLO lubricating drops which help, but now the weather is getting cooler, I just cannot stay outside at all. I seem to always have a pain on the outer side of my eye, and the vision on that very outer corner can go blurry. but on the whole my vision is vastly improved. Does anyone have similar problems. More importanly could someone tell me names of the top Eye Specialist in this field. I will go private, and have to get this sorted whatever it costs.

Hi .this is Bumblebea again. Because I have never done this before,I did not know how to add to my letter above, but thought it important to say this. Halfway through the operation, the surgeon pushed downwards, and the pain was awful. I yelled out and he said sorry. Could he have damaged some part of my eye then..

I wish I had a recommendation for you but I don't.  My eye is sore, dry and I have a pain out the outer side of my eye, as well as the back of the eye, also the vision is blury on the outside of that eye, and the overall vision is not as good as it was when I first got in done in January, so we have very similar symptoms.  My eye does become watery mostly at night or sometimes when I am out, even though I know that this is not right, it a relief from it being dry.  All this has happened since the operation.  The Doctors say they can see nothing wrong!!!  So sorry I have not yet found a solution.

Hi, sorry to hear you are still having trouble with your eye. My problem started 6/23/14  with a feeling of something in my eye, which was driving me crazy. My surgeon could no find anything wrong, went to a retina specialist and then finally to New York Eye & Ear Hospital in New York City.  You can call for a referral and let them know what your problem is and they will give you the names of Doctors that can handle your problem. The phone #1-212-979-4000 and they are on. 310 east 14th st. I saw Dr. Joplin, he was wonderful and told me my Meiboian glands were clogged, that is the eyelash glands.  I hope this treatment works, so far I have a slight improvement.  Good luck to  and let me know how you make out.

Doctors name is Richard Koplin, I misspelled his name

It would not surprise me if your eye was damaged because I had a very rough surgeon who seemed to be extremely angry.  Initially when I saw I had a woman doctor I thought, good she will be nice and gentle, it was just the opposite and during the operation it felt like she was trying to hurt me I also came out of the operation with an eye full of blood that stayed around for at least 2 weeks and that is my problem eye.  I had nightmares about it for months afterwards.  I find it strange that we also have very similar symptoms.

Bumblebea, I'm sorry you had such a rough time.  I beleive you can contact PALS in England.  I live in S Wales and it doesn't exist here.

I used to see Mr Iain Chisholm at Southampton Eye Hospital but I believe he has retired now and maybe the hospital has closed.  I had my cataract done in Bridgend in 1992.  I had to have a general anaesthetic because I was young!  I now see Mr Mark Freeman, who does have Private Patients.  He hasn't operated on me, so I don't know what he is like but, as a person and as a Consultant, he is kind, gentle and he listens.  He appears to keep up to date with research.

The only other thing I can suggest, is Moorfields but I don't have any names for you.

Try PALS first

Hi, Not sure if I can be of any help, I had both my cataracts removed at Moorfields the first one in London and second at my local hospital.  The first one went well but the second one they had trouble inserting the new lens.  Recovery from the second was slower.  I can now see well.  I only use reading glasses but might need distance next time around I am 66.  If you look online for Moorfields you will find a list of consultants who work on NHS and take private patients.  Moorfields is supposed to be the best in this field.  You said you had it done in June it is still early days.  Hope this helps and you can get it sorted out.  Good luck.

Bumblebea forgot to mention my first surgery was done with complet anaesthetic block to the eye and I never felt a thing.  The 2nd one was with eye drops only and after they had removed the old cataract I felt everything they did hence them having trouble getting the lens in the right place.   It is very usual for patients to feel anything with the eye drops.  They had to give me maximum anaethetic so I was able to lay still for the rest of the surgery.  So I don't know but it does sound simlar

to you feeling pain halfway through.
