Can prolonged cataracts lead to glaucoma? Or are they independent conditions? I've had worse cataracts in one eye for a while and have been prolonging surgery since my other eye is still good but was worried since my worse eye is getting pretty bad and was wondering if it could lead to other more serious conditions that weren't reverisble.
I am sure they are seperate issues,,glaucoma is hereditary, both my parents had this condition ,,,i have had cataract removal to prevent the glaucoma from becoming worse ..only in one eye at present , but no doubt the other eye will have to be done too in the future ..hope this helps , but if you have cataracts that are getting worse i would recomend there removal for your eye sight if nothing ekse ,,vic
I've actually thought it was the other way around in that any "compromised" eye (either disease or trauma) is more likely to get cataracts sooner. One of my eyes had trauma to it several times in the past and whether coincidence or not, the cataract I had in that eye was much worse than my other eye. I had decided to have cataract surgery on both eyes earlier this year and I've been very pleased with the results.
You're probably right , as i remember my cataract started sometime before my glaucoma flarred up , although the cataract was minimul at the time it obviously didn't help the glaucoma thus causing pressure ..it's hard to tell as i know people that have had glaucoma before cataract and visa vursa ,,,
