Hi. Surgeon thought I didn't need a catheter at time of op - but had one fitted after 12 hours when no pee. I'm still sore in my groin, and wonder if this is common. I think the spinal anaesthetic knocked my urinary tract our completely.....
Overall a spore day in wound (9 days on), but as someone said there are good and dad days. I'm taking paracetemol every 6 hours by the way.
16 days since surgery. I was not catherized, but nobody forewarned me of the swelling of my scrotum, subsequent shrinking of my penis, followed by deep purple bruising around its base 4 or 5 days after surgery. I don't mean to be graphic, but frankly this series of trauma side effects was most disconcerting. Cleared up completely now.

Yes mic the epidural does have an effect on the urinary system.
I managed with a great deal of effort to have a pee the next day,but it was painful.
But for 10 days after had no bladder control,not even enough time to reach the toilet,so had to use a pee bottle..2wks on and it's settled back to normal.
I have heard of a few people with real urinary issues post epidural.

I had a catheter fitted. I'm glad I'm a woman, because I had no ill effects at all. My husband had one fitted though when he had a heart bypass, and he just felt a bit sore when it was taken out and his pee was a bit bloody for a couple of days but he drank lots of water and it soon cleared up. Hope you feel better soon.
