Causing anxiety..?

Hey,

Ive been prescribed this for depression, but lately been feeling mor symptoms of anxiety than depression since i began taking these.

I dont know how common this is so if anyone else had experiences like this it would be really good to hear from you.

Since getting the depression i have have alot of trouble feeling anything like excitement and happiness and love, which is my biggest worry.

I have had trouble feeling for boy boyfriend the feelings i know i should be feeling, because i know that i love him i just cant feel it!!

so now i think i've convinced myself weve already broken up and every memory of him is painful, which causes me massive anxiety because almost everything reminds me of him, considering ive spent most of the past two years with him.

I can't work out of it's the drug making me feel this way, the depression, or that the source of my anxiety is an actual concern.

i really need some good advice... if there's any to offer!!

thanx so much for reading this and hopefully offerin some much appreciated help!

Hi Bekki

When you start taking an SSRI like citalopram anxiety can increase . This will wear of ,it did with me after about 2 weeks . I still have residual anxiety but nothing like it was. Try and carry on , if it doesn't go away go back to your doctor who can change your med

Good luck

Hello Bekki,

Just saw your posted message and wanted to respond.

I have been taking Citalopram for 3 weeks now, and am starting to feel the benefit of sticking with it. my experience is quite similar to yours it was the break up of my marriage after 12 years that made me suffer with depression.

I understand from my doctor that you can feel no benefit or even feel slightly worse in the first stages of taking the tablet, i was fairly unchanged at the start of the course but have noticed a lighter mood after three weeks.

I think that the feeling of wellbeing just slowly creeps up on you and you start to feel better gradualy rather than a quick fix solution.

Hope you feel better and wish you all the very best of luck with everything - you are not alone so many people are in the same boat, but do try and see it as a positive step to helping you and making you feel a bit better.

Hi Bekki,

I have only just started taking Citalopram myself.

For me things were the other way around. I suffered from severe anxiety attacks for years but now it is more depression for me.

The main reason for that I think is because I managed to get a handle on the anxiety, which is like an alien invading your body, by telling it to do it's worst. Let the panic attacks come on, see how bad they can really be, and know that you survived it afterwards. Gradually they decreased.

If you are just starting to experience them now, they could be brought on or made worse by the tablets, but they could also just be a natural continuation of your depression or the situation you are in.

If they do last, please remember that you are not going to die, you are not the only person who experiences this (there are hundreds of thousands of us) and you can beat it.
