Celebrex or Ducolax for pain?

Hi Everyone;

I had spinal fusion ( L4 & L5) in Nov. 2016 and was told I have osteoarthritis. I'm happy that I can walk again but I have pain in my joints so I was prescribed Celebrex but I also have a prescription for Ducolax.  Does anyone have experience with either of these 2 meds?

Ducolax is not for pain it to help you go loo, I have tried it in the past but did not do much for me, I also have osteoarthritis in my spine :-( I have 3 lots of pain relife but have not heard of  elebrex

Never heard of these but I have osteoarthritis of my lumbar and cervical spine I haven't had operation but told I need some on cervical but unfortunately told it would be a domino affect so surgeon is putting off. I can't take ibuprofen so take opiodes gabapentin and oramorph . I can walk but limited due to the pain and now have it in knees aswell. I wish you luck, there's nothing worse than chronic pain

I'm gld you asked this question. I was prescribed hydroxychloroquine, but had to stop it after 6 weeks due to horrible side effects, but they now want to put me on Celebrex.  I googled them and was quite horrified at the possible side effects.  

I'm sorry to hear about your spinal fusion, but glad that you can at least walk again.

Celebrex is a powerful antiinflammitory and does work but is known to be hard on the stomach.  I don't like taking pain meds so use things like lifestyle changes (yoga, gentle exercise, avoiding all alcohol) and also use ultrasound.  Mine is a sonic relief (you can googel them).  I get great relief for all my oa pain.  Good luck!

As someone else has stated Celebrex is an antiinflamatory is absolutely true. It can be hard on your stomach, so eat with it. Ducolax is a stool softener that I believe everyone should take the first day of starting opiods (pain meds) to prevent constipation from the pain meds. Give the Celebrex a chance, if it doesn't work, try another med. I would definitely go to either an arthritis specialist or ortopedic. I have OA, severe pain in my left leg for 5 yrs, I found relief from a brace with a RX from my orthopedic that was specifically fit for me by a prothetic. Finally after 5 yrs I couldn't walk so, I had surgery on 1 & 2 metetarsals on 6/29/16. I 've had no pain since post op day 1 but I am still recovering. I have little mobility, if none, which I WAS

prepared for before surgery. Keep going to different Drs and trying new meds or alternatives until you find some help! Mary

sorry to hear anout the fusion. I have the same issues. L-4 -- s-1. I tried the meds you asked about. It depends on how far the degenerative disease is. You can try them, at first they did help me until the disease became advanced. 

Also ask for water therapy very good to keep muscles and tendons in the back strong. Really helped more than the meds,

I use ultra sound too! Your the first person I have come across who does this too. It really does help . Eating clean antiinflammatory diet and mindfulness as well as learning our limitations helps manage this disease pretty well for me.
