I've recently been suffering from anxiety. For the past 6 weeks i've had a burning, gnawing feeling in my upper abdomen, in the centre between belly button and breast bone which is sometimes tender to touch. Its very uncomfortable at night and seems to also flare when ive lifted something or upon walking. I feel like it restricts my movements and sometimes feels like im carrying a heavy brick in my stomach. Its there everyday. My doctor believes its stress related however im not convinced. I was initially given ppi's but these made me worse. Ive tried Gaviscon also which doesnt help so dont believe its indigestion. Blood tests all fine. Anyone had similar problem?
I had that feeling and I was given an endoscopy and got diagnosed with gastritis, oesophagitis and a hiatus hernia. Which PPIs were you given, which dose and how long were you on them? Do you take any anti inflammatory pain killers like ibuprofen or anything stronger?
If you have been recently suffering from anxiety, it sounds like your gut problems could be stress related. Your doctor could be right so I wouldn’t discount this. Stress is very hard on the gut and could cause things like gastritis which can only be seen on an endoscopy and not on blood tests. It may also be a stomach infection called h pylori. Go back to your doctor and ask about these conditions.
