Possible to be in perimenopause? Definitely. Probably close to menopause. When you go 1 year without a period, you're said to be in menopause. 51 is the average age for menopause.
Yes, it is. I'm 59 and am sure that I still had some from time to time three years ago. I even bought a pregnancy test a couple of years ago. I don't remember the exact details of my signs of fertility/sexual activity, but I was definitely alarmed at the possibility!
I don't have the usual symptoms of menopause. I have never had a hot flash. Some months I have one day of a braining numbing headache. During this time did you have any sign of period?
Was there much cervical mucus?
I think I did have the discharge most of the time but I don't remember. Peri lasted for years for me! But I would have periods every month for a while and then not have one for months. Then I would call the doctor and she would call in progesterone. Id have periods for a while and then stop again. It went on for a couple of years until it just stopped. Blood work confirmed I was officially in menopause.
There was not a lot of cervical mucus, but after an entire reproductive lifetime of observing it, I definitely knew what I was looking at. I did not end up having a period, however. But nearly a year ago, after a year-and-a-half of no periods, I had what seemed like a period, although it only lasted a day. I had bleeding (though not a lot), and menstrual cramps painful enough that I took 800 mg of ibuprophen twice that day.
Thank you Jane. This tells me a lot. I have read the occurence of women ovulating after 50 to be quite rare but I really doubt that is the case. I am finding it a slow progression not a leap off a cliff. I have had cervical mucus, cramps, the twinges, the sensations. No hot flashes, no dryness none of the usual symptoms. Just the absence of a regular cycle.
And were you are on any HRT? Or even anything over the counter?
I guess anything is possible in peri or menopause.
What do you mean "cervical mucous present"?. Did you have a doctor's appt? Do you have a discharge? I would think if you have a cervix you would have cervical mucous, unless you never did.
and possibly smell bad. Its coming once a month. I am going to press the nurse practiioner in the appt. The last time I asked anyone about anything I got my head bit off. I am sick of being treating like an idiot in the dr's office. And I should have options. Not just condescening crap from an arrogant nurse pratitioner. I learned much more from this forum than in the dr's office.
Left a bit out... its cm... if it was discharge it would look differently and possibly smell bad.
