Recently, I finally got into a P.T. For what I thought was BPPV. During my visit she couldn't find any traditional symptoms to support that.
She had me doing other tests involving my neck. Low and behold the light went on. I've been suffering a lot of issues due to my neck.
Now since doing exercises for my neck, I'm feeling pretty darn good. Anyone else have this prognosis? Thanks in advance.
What are the exercise for the neck cause the back of my neck been hurting since I was diagnosed with vertigo
Hi Vanessa, the PT sat behind me and limited my neck while I brought my chin up slightly. I am feeling fantastic. I did suffer whiplash as a result of a car accident when I was quite younger. Also, I have a burning sensation on the wing of my back and also tingling in my fingers. All related to cervical issues. I am to do the above mentioned exercise at home. I'm feeling confident!!
VERY interesting!!!! I have had neck issues for years. I have never suffered from whiplash but have often been asked by PT when I'm being treated for neck issues if I have ever been in a car accident or suffered whiplash. So whatever is going on in my neck presents itself like whiplash. I have been wondering about whether my neck is causing or at least involved in my BPV... I saw an osteopath last week who also thinks that this could be the case. I'm going back to my PT today so am going to ask him to do some work w my neck!!!!!!!
I'm gonna try the exercises cause my lower back hurts and I also get some tingling in my fingers! So I will have someone stand behind me y I do the chin exercises is there anymore?
can anyone explain how to do the exercises?
I would only recommended going to a PT first so he/she can show you the exercises. I would never in a million years know the protocol. It is a very slight exchange of motion. She sent me home with an illustration and written instructions. I'm pleased to say I thought I would have this horrible condition forever. Now I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Yay Brett! I will say after the PT did a lot of other ruling out maneuvers, she figured I was not your typical bppv case. One test she had me do was stand with my arms out to my side (like I was going to flap my wings) and I believe turn my head and turn the palms of my hands downward one at a time. At that moment, I felt very nauseous. Hence the correlation between neck and vertigo.
Well don't have the money for pt so that's y I was asking.spent alot of money in the last 4weeks try in to figure out what was wrong.the hospital sent me home with exercises for my vertigo but the spinning isn't there anymore it's a a plane dizzy and not as bad so thought whatever everyone could help me with would be great
You should Google cervical vertigo. I had never heard of this until after my appt. I work at a day spa and have massage therapists who are going to help me with my exercises.
Along with the vertigo I'd been experiencing, I have some tinnitus. This is also common with cervical issues. I'm glad to report I'm feeling some relief.
ditto ditto ditto!!!! I'm not dizzy anymore, but I'm constantly off balance. And I have been spending a fortune on PT, Osteo, ..now someone has recommended acupuncture... I can't afford this Vertigo!!!!!!!!!!
I completely understand. My visit wasn't covered under my co pay. Anyways, try googling cervical vertigo you tube videos. Best of luck to you!!
Try you tube. I did see a couple there.
I've heard acupuncture could be good too. I'm just starting with the exercise my PT has sent home with me. You tube actually has several videos that might yield relief for you. I hope I've helped. I didn't have spinning either, just mainly off balance and light headedness. Feeling good now.
I've been having neck pain associated with vertigo and have an appointment to see the spine doctor. I was also diagnosed with BPPV and think it was a misdiagnosis. When you have neck pain do you have bad headaches? I get headaches all through the back of my head and top. I think it has to do with my neck pain.
Glad your exercises are working!

The problem with the neck is it can be a lot,of things. So,doingan exercise that works for one person, won,t work for another, sadly! If I was you I would Google something like. Exercises for Cervical Vertigo, there,s bound to be loads, And trawl, through until you find some that work for you. Sometimes as well, it can come from another part of your body that has a problem, like a curvature of the spine (Scoliocis, for eg), so when you are walking etc., you are subconsciously overcompensating and it produces tension in the neck. I am convinced that is my problem, so then You have to. 'Correct' the cause first, as just treating the affected area, ie the neck, will not help.
Lindsay, I think you're heading in the right direction!!
I wasn't actually having any pain just balance issues and vertigo feelings without the spinning.
Good luck to you and keep us all posted. This forum seems to help.
Linda
Very good advice Gillian!!
Thanks Gillian I will look some up; the spinning has gone away still got the balance problem so hopefully can find something out soon!
