Hi I have been home for 1/2 and already not right in my chair I have a recliner which could not be raised i brought a cushion but that brings me up too high, have a pillow beneath me now but does not feel firm enough can anyone suggest where i could hire a chair for 6 weeks.

Have you asked your occupational therapy department? I am presuming all hospitals have one
occupational therapy said to get a foam block for the seat, I have just found one so OH going get tomorrow. Red cross looks like anything but chairs but will ring them tom am to see what the score is. I just got so used to the hospital chair
Tracey, I'm sure if you know someone with basic DIY skills, they could find a way to raise your chair.

If your in uk, occ health should provide, unless your private.
Try red cross, they do loads of things to hire, if not why not try buying one secondhand for a short period as someone else suggested on here before.
My husband put planks of wood under my chair, raises it about 3 in & can soon be lowered again..

I was told not to use a recliner and because the only other thing I had was a settee they provided a chair along with the rest of the equipment for at least 6 weeks....horrible thing Dark brown, straign up and down, pretend leather etc but it did the job and if stopped the hip from popping out who cares ....its only temporary

I only have 2 sofas so they brought the brown chair along with the 2 toilet raisers and 2 perching chairs.
I cried when they came, as i hated them but it was the day before my first op was due, so I was in a state anyway and didn't need much to tip me over the edge.
It took them 2 weeks after I rang them before they could collect them and I didn't want them to go , well not the chair so much, but I was scared I wouldn't be able to manage I suppose, they said I could keep them but I said no my surgeon said I don't need them so I will just have to get used to them and I have and I love having my house back to normal.

It was awful but a godsend when it came lol
I couldnt wait to get rid of it........still got one perch stool after the 2nd THR and it sits in the garage. They have been told..... because the only thing I use it for now is ironing.....I have spinal problems as well. I've got used to sitting on it and lowering the ironing board but if they came and took it I would find some other way I'm sure LOL

When the OT called at my house to advice me on what equipment I would be needing she said that my armchair was not high enough and so we tried adding extra cushions until we achieved the correct height. All well and good but that evening I tried sitting watching tv with the added cushions and was soon very uncomfortable.
I checked on google and found some temporary/safe chair raisers, I think they were called elephant feet! They raised my chair by 5 inches (2inch ones were available too), 4 chunky grey feet that you push the chair legs into. Cost about £15, but worth every penny.
They don't look wonderful but at least I can sit safely and comfortably in my armchair.
The company I ordered them from delivered within 24hrs.

the same firm that supplied all the toilet,grabber etcetera sent one.the physio at the hospital ordered it all together.

ps. Also one of my sun chairs is quite high so out pillow on top to make it comfy and brought it inside .
