Doctor changed me to Citalopram - 20 mg on 6/1/18 from Zoloft 150mg. It was a direct switch and I did fine until recently. I've been getting anxiety in the mornings and sometimes in the afternoon. I take .25 of alprazalam if it gets too bad. Is this normal? After I take the alprazalam, I feel fine. I have nothing to worry about, just get anxious for no reason. Advise is always welcome!! THX!!
If all your getting is anxiety and your able to control it with the xanex then your doing just fine.usually folks that switch without weaning have severe side effects from withdrawals and start up effects from new med...
Ok. Kinda go worried because I thought that my anti-depressant should help. It all started coming back after a few weeks of not needing my xanax. I can control it with the xanax and i don't even take the whole .5 mg. I just take .25 and it makes me feel better. I might take 1 mg a day total, broken up throughout the day.
The anxiety could just be a blip, and will eventually clear up on it's own. Or, it could be that you are still leveling out on Citalopram. It's just been a bit over two months since you switched, which isn't that long when it comes to these meds.
Are you having to take the Xanax every day? If so, if you are still needing to take it daily in another month or two, I would visit your doctor, and see about possibly going up to a higher dose (depending on your age--if you are over 65, they probably won't let you go any higher). Or, at least discuss with your doctor the pros and cons of being on Xanax daily long term. Some doctors will not prescribe benzos for more than a few months, due to the addiction factor, especially if it's someone young or middle aged .
