Changing from Sertraline to Ecitalopram

I've been on Sertaline for approximately 16 years. 5 weeks ago I became very depressed and anxious. We tried increasing my Sertraline from 50 to 100, but after 4 weeks I either didn't improve or became worse. We bumped it back to 50, and one week ago my Dr. changed me to Ecitalopram 10. How soon should I start feeling better? Is it possible to build a tolerance to Sertraline?

Yes it is possible that after many years our antidepressants can stop working for us. I’m the exact opposite of your story...Celexa stopped working for me after 16 years so I was switched to Sertraline in November. When Celexa was working all those years - I loved it. Kept the depression and anxiety at bay and I still felt like myself. You will start to feel good soon!

Thank you Heather for your response. It is truly amazing how debilitating depression/anxiety can be, especially when your trying to find something new that works, or fearful it may not.

Bob, I've been on Sertaline for alot longer than you and my anxiety came back 10 fold about a month ago. I've tried Wellbutrin XL 150 twice a day and it didn't work. I'm trying Busiprione (sp?) and it doesn't seem to help. My doc upped my sertaline from 100 to 150 about 3 weeks ago today and it seems to not be helping at all. Was coming off hard? I'm extremely scared of the side effects in case I have to switch..Help!!
