when changing from ven to another antidepresent how does the dr say to do this

do you have tototaly come of ven before starting the new antidepresent

I think it depends on which antidepressant you switch to. I've heard fluoxetine is a good one to switch to as you can start building up your fluoxetine dose as you taper off your venlafaxine dose. I'm not sure if this is the case with other antidepressants.

I was on citilopram and they took me off it very quickly. It was about 2 weeks. Ist week halved my dose of cit then sencond week stopped cit then started taking ven.

Was horrible.

I think coming of any antidepressant should br done slowly. I would talk to you're dr tho don't take my work for it.

How long have you been on ven for and how come your coming off it?

ven dosent seem to be working have been an it for 2 years still have to speak to dr

What dose are you on Tony? I've been on it for two years also (187.5mg). I had a serious attempt at suicide a few weeks ago so it was obviously not working. Rather than take me off, they have upped my dose to 375mg and I do think I can feel an improvement.

it worked for about 18 month then been up and down like a yoyo

i am on 225 and thougt that was the highest dose

You can go up to 300 generally or 375 if monitored as an inpatient (I've got away with being monitored daily as an outpatient by the crisis team).

Hi Tony, it will depend on the antidepressant they wish to change you too. There are a few types of antidepressant and not all are compatible with each other.

May I suggest you find a doctor you trust and respect enough to ask these question. It is your body, you can get more than one opinion. You don't actually have to take medication they advise.

They should allow you time to ask questions and answer you in words you understand. You can also get this information from a pharmacist.
