I have been on citalopram for about 8 years now I'm currently taking 60mg which is quite high, I have tried to cut down but it has made me feel worse. A counsellor suggested I should change from citalopram onto something else as i shouldn't be feeling as bad as I do, maybe I have become immune. I'm scared to change as I'm worried of the changeover period will I feel rock bottom?
Hi Naomi
I was on an antidepressant that left me feeling a bit up and down from day to day, and I was very tearful on it, so I said to my dr that I thought it would be working a lot better. He then changed to me to another one. I felt terrible for two or three days, like it made me panic I felt so strange. Dizzy and heart pounding right up into my ears. I thought the dr had made a huge mistake and I may never recover from his poor judgement.
The good news is he reassured me it was only temporary and I would be fine in a short time. Well, the new anti depressant worked so well, it was worth the scary side effects to begin with, and didn't take weeks like it does when you go from no meds to your first anti depressant. Anyway that was my experience. Good luck with your decision. give it a go if the one you are on is not effective. Hopefully it will be the right one for you this time.
Thank you for the advice I think I will try a different kind of medication fingers crossed it will work
I have changed from one anti depressant to another quite a few times. You must discuss this with your doctor. Don't be scared to change. Another may well help. You will possibly get few symtoms when you change but they will settle.
: as per your physicians recommendation if your finding 60mg citalopram is the higher dosage then you can shift citalopram to Gabapentin or Pregabalin which will give alternative medicine to citalopram, which are more safety and beneficial than citalopram.
Thank you I feel I need to try something else so have been in touch with my doctor
