hello all!  I need some help.  I’ve been taking Spivera inhaler for several years and have been given Breo Ellipta about 8 months ago.   Everything was fine until November 2 when I started getting bazaar back pain in the center of chest.  Ended up in the hospital with cardio tests but all negative.  Again 5 days ago ended up in emergency. Room with severe chest pain and neck pain.  Feels like crushing ball in middle of chest.  

      Does anyone have crushing pain in center of chest?  Doc says it’s not the meds but he might be wrong.  What do you think?  Help.

As for me, I experience mucus buildup that is located in the center of my chest. I use a nebulizer to loosen and allow me to extricate the obstruction and I occasionally use my rescue inhaler to help relax/expand my airways. Meds like Breo and Spiriva and Anoro are steroids and may have unwanted side effects. If your Dr. is not helping you, then perhaps you need an opinion from another Dr.

Breo contains a steroid but anoro ellipta and spiriva contain no steroid component. Until recently Spiriva + Seretide (a steroid) was the NHS's recommended treatment for COPD. Due to the cost and the thought that steroids like Seretide can cause pneumonia the NHS now recommends Anoro Ellipta (no steroid component) or Trimbow which has a small steroid component. If tiotropium is needed Braltus is preferred over Spiriva because of cost.

Could you please expand upon the aforementioned meds and their purpose/side effects. What is NHS and why go you think that Scotr124 is experiencing chest pain.

What are you taking the breathers for. Do you have a lung disease?

Hi Scot, I also have crushing pain in chest and back, unexplained by GP but looking into heart problems. I don't think it is heart issue, I think it is a build up of mucus as explained by Larry, but can't convince GP as mucus medication did not work for me. Sorry I can't help you more.

We have HMO insurance so. Have to stay in network.  I really can’t see another doctor.  Have to go back to the same one. ???

The medication brouchures for the Breo Ellipta and Spivera says they CNBC both cause chest pain etc.  But doctors are always reluctant to say it’s the med’s.

sSo don’t know.  I had cardio work ups that came back negative.  I still have. Bad chest pain???

Does your health care system allow you to switch to another Dr.? If so, do your homework and try to choose one that may be of better help to you, if that is your choice. 

I will see my Pulmonary Specialist on the 15th. I last saw him 6 months ago and don't expect any changes in my treatment. He is my current Dr. as I replaced my original Pulmonary Dr. with him. I find that he is a better listener and does not mind explaining things to me when I ask. My treatment may not have changed any, but I have more confidence in him than his predecessor. .

NHS is the National Health Service in the UK. Unless someone states where they live it can be difficult to give advice as every country is different.  x
