Ok, I thought preds. suppose to help chest colds. Am I mistaken? i have a terrible cold in my chest and coughing most of day and night. is this part of being on preds.? I don't know what to do except get to doctor. My husband got it first now I have it! Do we with suppresed immune system catch everything?

Good Morning Phyllis, when i was on pred. it really helped with my asthma.
Because your immune system is lowered, you are more likely to catch an infection and as your body won't fight it well, it can get get worse than if you had a healthy immune system. Best to see your doctor.
It won't help a cold - it will reduce any inflammation in the airways due to the cold.
I have had fewer colds and other infections in the 5 years on pred than I had had in the 5 years previous to being put on it (though I did have PMR in that time!). I know quite a few people who say the same - so, like everything to do with PMR, we are all different!
Inhaling - menthol or Friar's Balsam or just plain steam will help soothe the production of gunk. Cough syrups are a waste of money - and you don't want to suppress the cough, it's there to get rid of the gunk.
