Chest congestion after flu

I have bronchitis and about 6 weeks ago I had a bad case of the flu. It took me about 7-10 days to get over that. However, in the aftermath, I have developed a significant amount of chest congestion. I went to the doctor who prescribed anti-biotics and an inhaler. This medicine seemed to improve my condition but only for awhile. The extreme mucus production continues.

Does anyone have any insight on what may be going on? Thanks.......JJ

It can take some time for these symptoms to leave your body it isn't uncommon to experience flue like symptoms for weeks after, you did the right thing going to the doc though as you can never be to careful.

What is your diet like at the moment? are you eating normally, it is likely that your eating habits changed when your symptoms were stronger and that could be having an aftermath effect on you. Are you familiar with what foods , herbs , etc are good for easing congestion?

Thanks for the response careplan. I eat healthy and I didn't change my eating habits at all. IA am not familiar with foods and herbs contribute to an ease of congestion. i have started taking Mucinex and I'm using albuterol inhaler the doctor prescribed. I do not have a cough or any other of the flu like symtoms. The only thing left is the chest congestion.

Hello JJ, I posted a link to an article I have written about other options, but naturally with it being a link its pending approval to avoid spam, so instead on this occasion I will post the content here and ask the administrators what I should do in future so not to upset them

Any advice is better than none, and whilst not a medical professional we will share our clients views and that of our experiences.

Mucus in the body can come from allergies, ( so rule that out first get allergy tested ) but can also come from toxins, pollutants and even food additives so try to keep your food as natural as possible for a week or two. The main food that cause sputum is wheat and dairy, so avoid the bread milk and yoghurt these require strong stomach acids to digest and because there is left over they become partly formed food particles which coat in mucus causing further complaint.

Some would suggest these, and providing you have no allergies no harm in giving them a go

Oil of oregano, not a clue how people use it but I could ask my client for you, he swears by it it is a natural antibiotic along with Turmeric with whatever you drink or chuck it in a glass of water, it is said that a tea spoon a day of this stuff will work wonders.

Steam is a favourite clearing the airways nose and throat making it easier to breath.

Salt and cold water gargled for 30 seconds, yes, I know doesn’t sound nice but that’s supposed to deal with the gunge that gets trapped at the back of your throat

Do you drink tea? Maybe consider swapping it for the herbal stuff, with a little honey ( sip slow ) to get maximum as the heat will also act to the back of the throat to break down the sputum best teas are Ginger or Lemon , ginger also has natural antibacterial properties ( doesn’t taste all that ) but nor do most of the herbal options. Garlic another one , to combine in to the mix as it will kill the bacteria, your sputum is like a vampire when it comes to garlic, now I know its not a nice thought but if you can eat a clove in the morning you may get it the mucus before it starts.

did they tell you that Mucinex can take a few weeks to work properly? Recently I decided to stop taking them and it took a couple of weeks before I realized I had made a mistake, that was on christmas day so it rather spoiled things. I went straight back on it, two a day and things are a lot better. June

Thanks for all the great information. I got some N-Acetylcysteine and oil of oregano. I'll be taking that along with the Mucinex. Thanks oddbuddy for the info on that.

well done JJ lots of people in charge of your condition but mainly you. June
