ive been experiencing chest pains for over a month clear xray and heart check up. could this be anxiety? i also get very light headed and feel a cold sensation when i drink liquids (water) and my chest feels sore as well as my back. i was told it was costochondritis but im scared its something else someone please help. has anyone had chest pain last over a month because of anxiety or costochondritis?
yeah i have pain in chest area as well as heart area and it make me go into panic attack
become agoraphobic and on med for a week now and hoping to get myself out of this
yes, I’ve had mine for almost 9 weeks now.. also told costochondritis and anxiety after clear xray , bloods and ecgs.. it did go more or less for about a week after I had a calmer week.. however it’s in full force again today but I have been stressed and worrying for the last few days.. easier said than done but try and stay calm. however I know the feeling, it can be scary!
what are your chest pains like?
you already saw a doctor and had the necessary tests done, which is excellent. now that you have that narrowed down. i would say yes, its probably anxiety. its allergy season, and i always get chest and back pain during this time of year. the light headedness can also be chalked up to panic and anxiety. do not stop drinking water, its good for you and keeps you from getting dehydrated. it also thins out any mucus that may be in your lungs causing the chest a back pain. the cold sensation you are feeling can also be attributed to panic and anxiety, or possibly a circulation problem caused by low blood pressure, but most likely anxiety. now you can call or go back to your GP and see if he can help you or refer you to a psychiatrist who can help you. its very common symptoms, you have nothing to worry about, you are not going to die. stay away from caffeine and sugars. keep drinking the water. take hot showers. a hot shower relaxes you and loosens any chest congestion you may have. mainly keep your mind busy. find a project, read a book, think of the words to your favorite song, go for a walk, get out of the house and get out of your own head. i hope this helps you. keep us informed of your progress
they really do vary to be honest, I can have quick sharp shooting pains, pressure like at times, sometimes feels bruised, sometimes tight. hard to describe! plus odd feeling ribs sometimes, almost like I can feel the muscle moving between them if I push around.
do you sleep on your chest? maybe you need a new mattress?
I do! and I also sleep with my arm kind of tucked under, I definitely dont think how I sleep helps at all but it’s how I’ve always slept so hard to change my pattern.
it could be time for a new mattress. they wear out and get hard overtime especially if you sleep in the same spot in the bed and in the same position. can you try sleeping on your back? it may help. i had same problem, i switched the mattress and the rib and chest pain went away. i am a little heavy so when sleeping on my stomach, i was putting too much pressure on my chest, and i felt like someone beat me up in my sleep. i dont know if this will help you but its worth a shot. they have mattress stores that study your position when sleeping and they recommend the best mattress for you based on the position you sleep. also, if you cant sleep on your back, try an extra pillow and put under your chest. i hope you feel better. good luck.
i have had all these symptoms too and it never goes away. have you been dealing with shortness of breath too?
i have been experiencing so many different symptoms from anxiety that its hard go believe its just coming from anxiety especially with everything going on..
its very frustrating to never feel normal anymore
did you see your GP ?
yes, i understand completely. unfortunately i dont think things will go back to normal for awhile. i am having problems with my anxiety too. i honestly thought i was going to catch the virus and die, which led to my anxiety going from 2 to a 10 in a matter of hours. luckily my therapist talked me down, but it still took about a week before the pains in the chest, throat irritation, achy arms and legs, loss of appetite, stomach problems, sweating hot and cold, heart racing, mind racing, hyper leg movement, shakiness, etc., died down. so now my govenor decides to making wearing a mask in public mandatory, which raises my anxiety to a 5 because i cant see peoples facial expressions or mouth. which is probably weird, but it bothers me. anyway, i drink lots of water, take my meds regularly and i am bound and determined not to let this get me down. i have a family and i feel like such a let down to them when i cant function due to anxiety, and that bothers me more than the symptoms. love to hear back from you
yes ive seen 5 doctors now and ive gotten tests done all came back normal which is why i got diagnosed with it all being anxiety
ive been experiencing all the symptoms youre talking about even the throat irritation that sometimes causes me to have to cough and i get so scared its the virus but ive been home for a month so i know i havent been exposed to it
its a scary time for us anxiety sufferers
unfortunately I’m not in a position to get a new mattress but I’ll try flipping it and maybe using a pillow like you’ve suggested, see if that helps. thank you.
I wouldn’t say shortness of breath but sometimes I feel like I need to catch my breath, but I do know that’s when I’m feeling most anxious. I know there cant be nothing wrong with my heart because I’ve had the checks but it doesn’t stop you worrying everytime. you’re not alone.
yes it is a scary time. you need to get out of the house and out of your own head. go outdoors in your backyard, for a walk, to a park, anything but get out of the house for awhile. the fresh air will do you good. you anxiety is complicated by the fact you are going stir crazy in the house. your probably bored and you are not stimulating your mind, causing it to revert back on itself, your mind needs stimulus or it will create its own, usually in the form of anxiety and ghost symptoms for your body. it is a funny thing the mind, and powerful. we all are experiencing heightened anxiety, and cabin fever just makes it worse.
in case the anxiety is the effect and not the cause, you may wish to consider an over the counter allergy medication (allegra, claritin, zertec, etc) as well. post nasal drip caused by allergies (you do or dont know you have) can cause the throat irritation and the same post nasal drip (mucus) can get into your lungs causing the chest pains. its allergy season and pollen, mold and dust are every where. this can heighten your anxiety. the allergy medicine should dry up this post nasal drip in a matter of a week, and you should have some relief from some of your symptoms. i mean its worth a shot
i actually did get diagnosed with post nasal drip about a month ago i dont think its went away even though its been a whole month. im unable to take alot of otc medication because i have high blood pressure so ive been trying other remedies to get rid of it. i think the anxiety doesnt help it either
