Hi, I have suffered from chest pain on and off all my life, feels like a heart attack when it comes on, it's too sore to breath in.
Been given Omeprazole as the doctor thinks my stomach is producing too much acid but it seems to be worse now.
The chest pain comes on when I have wind mainly but also if I am full up or stressed.
Has anyone had anything similar?
I am 25 now and really want to get myself sorted.
Thanks
hi ive been on the same meds for a month now but they have sorted me right out.
i was the same as you in regard to the chest pains could of been to hospital a million times over cos i had no idea stomach acid could make u feel like that! to be honest didnt even know i had stomach acid till doc prescribed me these!
you didnt say how long u had been on them in ur msg but if they arent working for you there are other stomach acid meds out there that may be more suitable for u
also watch you diet cos the realisation that i had bad acid made me look at my diet and avoided the foods which are suggested. the meds and avoiding these have helped me alot
hope ur better soon xx
I have been on them for a week now and if anything the omeprazole is making my chest worse, i am going to see the doctor again tomorrow morning, she said if the tablets didn't work she would take a blood test to check if my stomach is producing too much acid. we shall see what she says tomorrow.
Having now been to the doctor, I am now on lansoprozale which should stop my stomach being so gassy and reduce the pain I am getting in my chest. Also been for an x-ray and that seems fine (had a collapsed lung in 2004), and got blood taken to. It's been quite a day. This better hurry up and go away, it's driving me mad!
The chest pain you describe could be costochondritis, if you press your ribs or inbetween your ribs and it's really sore or tender then that's probably what it is, I have had it for over 4 months and it hurts when you cough, sneeze and breathe in too deeply and the first time I had it I thought I was having a heart attack. Not sure if it's related to GERD but I have both, check your symptoms on the web..
i have had similar pain in my chest and told it was junction inflammation i too thought i was having a heart attack and got rushed into hosp i thought this was due to my asthma! well u learn some thing new every day
If you are having chest pain I would insist on a through examination with a cardiologist. Heart attacks often mimic acid reflux symptoms you describe. Once you have a heart attack your heart will never be the same, demand to see a cardiologist for a full work up.

ps you do not mention if you have any other predisposing factors, say asthma, high blood pressure or diabetes, if any of these are true I would not put off seeing your GP and asking for a cardiologist ( heart specialist) referal.
