Ive been having chest pain for a couple of months now and it's starting to worry me now. At first it started on the right side of my chest and I would get this painful stabbing pain everyday that would come and go. But 2 months ago I started feeling the same pain on the left side and it comes and goes. Throughout the day I don't really notice the pain but sometimes it surprises me and I get a sharp painful stabbing pain in that area. At first it didn't worry me as it would come and go but now I am becoming out of breath very easily and become fatigued doing the simplest things such as walking down the street which is starting to worry me. I am only 22 and I don't think it is normal. Is this bad enough that I should see a doctor?
Are you on the contraceptive pill?
No
How is your heart rate?
Normally when resting it is around 70bpm but when I walk up one flight of stairs I get out of breath very quickly and it jumps to around 120bpm which is weird as I am 5'2 and 54kg. It also feels as if my heart is beating out of my chest.
Do you have anyone in your family who has heart problems or who has had blood clots? Also have you ever taken any medications in the last year or anything that could have given you any side effects? Even something from a health food shop?
The only medications i have taken are antihistamines but that was only for a few weeks in the last year. I have no family history of heart problems or blood clots.
Are you a smoker or drinker?
No i have never.
Have you ever been anorexic, been pregnant or had an accident? I would suggest speaking to a doctor, but think about anything that could have put a strain on your chest, heart or lungs before, because of your age, and the fact you aren’t overweight they will probably tell you it is anxiety or musculoskeletal pain. So if you think it could be something more serious, think really hard of something that may have happened before it all started. It possibly could be something to do with your digestive system. Or maybe if you are very much into fitness a muscle tear or strain.
