I am 23 y/o and have been getting very bad chest pains over the past couple of weeks. I have been to A&E and had an EKG and blood tests done and all came out fine, but they are really frightening. I am on Sertraline and Mirtazapine for my depression but have been on the same dose for almost a year so surely side effects couldn't start now?
Please can someone help, I am getting frightened waking up to chest pains in the night.
Could it be heartburn or GERD or possibly a panic attack?
I wouldn't have thought it was side effects from your meds, certainly not after a year.
If you've had the tests and they came back clear then it's nothing to worry about, may be a bit of anxiety so try and push it away and accept its nothing serious.
Hi Roseyf. If anything else serious has been excluded ...then this could be chronic or severe ANXIETY that is causing these chest pains. Its unusual to be on BOTH sertaline and mirtazipine. I would suggest that you review where you are going with your meds with your doctor as you could put your health and future at risk relying on all these meds affecting your brain and body at your young age. Unless you are seriously clinically depressed I would recommend you explore other avenues to deal with your mood and ditch these powerful meds as longterm use (with help of your doctor). You are going to have a really tough time coming off them if you continue on this path on medicating yourself at your age. Doctors often try to medicate-away side-effects of drugs by giving even more drugs, which is just crazy. These meds can cause very serious anxiety and body issues, and I personally think should only be used for very severe clinical depression. Look at alternative ways of being kinder to yourself and your body. Get help; use friends; use family; try as many non-drug options as you can think of. Look at diet, lifestyle, eliminate caffeine, avoid sugary and fatty food, eat very healthy.
