i wanna know if a child has chicken pox he can take bath and he can go to sea ?
Hi Mohammed,
It is a long time since I had chicken pox. I was 18 years old. I discovered to my surprise I had an extensive rash when taking a bath. Parents recognised it as chicken pox. It gave me little trouble and the bath did not seem to make any difference. I had a slight loss of appitite and a slightly runny tummy. Passed completely in a few days. The doctor was not consulted.
It is often suggested that children with chickenpox have a bath with bicarbonate of soda in the water to help the itching - so yes, a bath shouldn't be a problem.
Not quite sure what you mean by "go to sea" - until the blisters are all scabbed over he will be infectious and shouldn't mix closely anywhere with other people who haven't already had chicken pox. If a woman in early pregnancy who hasn't had chicken pox were to catch it it could cause severe damage to the unborn baby and other people with impaired immune systems (people with cancer, taking rheumatoid arthritis drugs for example) can be made very ill by catching chicken pox and you don't know who you are meeting.
thanks dear GeorgeGG
thanks dear EileenH ,
dear some people advising me to take my son who has chiken pox to the sea for bath than he will recover very soon, is it right way ?
I don't think you need to really - especially if you are in the UK as it will be a bit cold to bathe in the sea at this time of year!
The blisters will get crusty tops and when all of them have turned into scabs he won't be infectious any more. He'll recover in a couple of weeks anyway. Do try not to scratch or knock the scabs off though - they leave a little scar. I have one right in the middle of my forehead from when I had chickenpox when I was 4 years old! If you or your wife haven't had chicken pox watch out in 2 to 3 weeks - you might catch it too and that's how long the incubation period is. If you do, then go to the GP straight away. He can give you a medicine that will make it last less time and not be so severe but you must get it in the first 2 days. Chicken pox can be bad in adults.
Hope you all keep well!
You can definitely give your child a bath. Aveeno and Oatmeal baths are very soothing. I would recommend avoiding the sea, public pools, etc as chicken pox is quite contagious, though relatively harmless (usually, but not always)
