Hi everyone. My wife and me have been talking about the temptations of the festive season to people like us, she being type 2 diabetic and me with high bp. The traditional goodies such as chocolates, alcohol, cakes/puddings etc and slobbing out in front of the TV watching re runs of the Vicar of Dibley are a no no!! So this year we have decided not to over indulge, go for an early Christmas Day walk (my wife has to work the evening shift in the hospital on Xmas Day so no wine with her lunch!) and generally try to stick to our "regime" over the holidays.
I was wondering what things you guys have planned to ensure bp readings don't soar over the Xmas period?
Hmmn... hadn't really given it a thought! Shan't be drinking beetroot juice though for sure !!
I wish I had your willpower, Fisherman. I fear I will indulge somewhat over the Christmas period, not least because we will be attending our son's wedding ceremony/breakfast just three days before! It's in the New Forest area so perhaps a couple of healthy walks might help to offset the damage!
How wonderful to have a wedding in the New Forest. I used to fish the river at Ringwood every year with friends. We loved the area around there. Of course you must treat yourself.....a wedding AND Christmas are excuses enough! Have a fantastic time and worry about bp afterwards!!
What about beetroot juice with a dash of vodka? Maybe not!
The only reason we were talking about it was that we were reminiscing about the pre diabetic/high bp days when we ate and drank anything we fancied! Oh how times change!!
I'm planning to be good....my GP took great pleasure in deliberately scheduling my next HbA1c test for early January :-)
So true about times changing. Pre diabetes is an opportunity to stop diabetes in its tracks I believe. Hope so anyway because my dr told me I have it.
Enjoy youselves, tomorrow is another day !
Thank you Jane - so true! He's our only one, so it's extra special.
Yes, GP's are sneaky like that!!
My wife and I went out for a meal last night with friends that live some distance from us and who have come to Norfolk for the weekend. We spent several amusing hours talking about who has what wrong with them!! It was quite a long list. At least we all managed to laugh about it. Goodness knows what our combined drugs bill comes to........!!
As a famous American actress once said "getting old sucks!"
Fisherman
"Getting old sucks!" Far better than the alternative though!
Ha ha.......how true! I'm wondering if it was Joan Rivers that said it and not an actress. Typical Joan Rivers comment!
Despite everything I quite enjoy age......it makes you appreciate every single day and things that you see, like the otters I see when out on my boat. Wouldn't have given them a second glance when I was a spotty youth!!!
