Had THR lateral approach on 25th July. Not found the recovery period to be very easy. Struggled with limp and quite a bit of pain BUT on Christmas Day I walked without a limp and no pain all day. Have been having Physio and had been reassured that all was progressing well but was beginning to get a bit dispondant over the time it was taking. Also people saying that so and so was doing much more than me after surgery. So people don't listen to others only listen to your own body. I have done my exercises, walked and generally done as I was told (not like me at all) 😄. I can honestly now say I am glad I had the op although I dont think I will volunteer to have another for quite some time and fortunately, I don't need to at the moment. The surgeon did say it would take 6-12 months to fully recover. I do have a slight limp on getting up from chair and will still take my stick with me outdoors but yippee there is light at the end of the tunnel. Patience. Happy New Year all you hippies out there. Lang may yer lum reek. From Scotland. 😄🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hiya
totally agree everyones progress is different ...i had my thr in April and still recovering to some degree.but feel so much better for having the operation
have no more hip pain!
wishing you a very happy new year and a speedy recovery
Denise 😊
Hi Hippiechic,
I remember you having it done, glad to hear you are nearly back to normal.
Big hug Lynn x
Hi Hippichick
Great news........when I had my first one I got so fed up with people telling me their 92 year old mother had had a thr and was a new woman their friend had one and threw her sticks away after a couple of weeks etc.
When it came to my 2nd one I ignored everything others said and like you say I listened to my body.
I have learned to be careful what I say when talking to others about their thr's. A ;lesson learned

How are you getting on Lynn? I often think about you. Xx
Hi Hippiechic
Great news! So pleased to hear about your Christmas miracle. Long may it continue!! I had my op in mid August and am mostly painfree but do suffer the odd setback but it only lasts for a couple of days!! Been sitting more, over Christmas, and that doesn't really help. As you say, more noticeable when I get up from the chair, but I recover much more quickly than I did before the op!
Best wishes to you and all fellow hippies out there for a happy and painfree New Year.
Pat
Hi Hippiechic, So glad to hear you are doing well. Yes this recovery is not for the faint of heart, it certainly has its ups and downs. I am still stiff and in some pain first thing in the morning and after sitting for any time. However just before Christmas I walked the Capilano suspention bridge with my 6 year old grand daughter, something I could not have dreamt of doing this time last year. So here is to a good and healthy 2015.
I am really good, nothing I cant do, no pain or anything, went away on my own at 10 weeks back to UK and hired a car for two weeks ni problems, still doing excersies and going to the gym and swiming, going to see surgeon in January 15th and I will be nearly 6 months, hope he says I can ski,....the snow is great now. best thing I have done, just cant stop walking. Its so good to hear you are doing so well love, its nice to hear the good stories. lynn xx
That is just great to hear HippiechicUK. What a fab way to go into 2015! Enjoy it and all the best for further improvement. And I have to say that it gives me hope too. I had my THR on oct 1st and though I've done very well in the time since, I still have sense that there's room for further improvement and hearing your story restores my optimism. Best wishes

Glad you are well Lynn. Skiing... wow. Who would have thought that was possible 6 months ago? Xx
That's great Whalie. I was getting pretty fed up with it all. So chin up, keep doing the exercises and am sure progress will be made. It is slow but there is the story of the tortoise and the hare! Hope 2015 brings good things.
Indeed. Super that you did that walk. Best foot forwards. 🎉🎉🎊🎊
Yes indeed Eileen. All good wishes for 2015.

always good to acknowledge the improvement in our mobility. All the best to you

Well Hippie Chick, I have exeriating pain and I've gone to P/T for 4 months without improvement and it's been over 14 month since my operation. I was extremely athetic before the operation and now I can do no excerise without pain!
Happy for you but your situation is NOT mine.
So sorry Charles that you still have that amount of pain and sorry I maybe sounded a bit upbeat about my progress. I know how disheartening it can be if you do not seem to be progressing. I was just so pleased as I have had a struggle with pain and a severe limp and thought I would never improve. I hope things improve for you and you get to the bottom of what is causing the pain.
Hi Hippichick
Its great to hear positive news so dont feel guilty
Charles.....I do understand your situation. ....after my 2nd THR I had a fracture, bone snapped off, moved up so will never heal now.
That means I'm on crutches for the rest of my life.
Dont make her feel as if she shouldnt have posted her good news

Thank you! And I'm not too down really just sometimes a little impatient. Also recognise that I may be near the final extent of my improvement and that frankly, is ok too, as I can do most things, am back at work, and without that awful, excruciating pain. That is a blessing.
All best for to everyone for 2015
