You will be fine just listen to you Doctor take your PPL and diet

Chronic just means you've had it for a while, usually anything longer than like 4 months.  Gastritis takes a while to heal.  I technically had gastritis for three years, but was never that symptomatic until I tried to wean off my PPI.  The rebound affect really aggravate my gastritis.  I was diagnosed with erosive gastritis with bleeding.  Four months later, I still have some erosive gastritis, but a lot has cleared up and the bleeding is gone, confirmed through an endoscopy.  Gotta be patient.  Take your PPI, stay away from all the typical irritates, drink plenty of water, get plenty of sleep, take carafate if you want to speed up the healing process.  Sounds like your gastritis isn't that severe, I say within a few months of eating clean your gastritis should be healed.

Chronic simply means that your symptoms are ongoing and that while they may come and go, they will not completely go away.   Try avoiding rich, fatty and spicy foods and eat blandly.  Try a food diary to find out what foods could be irritating your stomach.

Ask your doctor for a PPI to prevent further stomach irritation. Try distraction techniques such as lght exercise or a hobby to take your mind off your symptoms.  Try not to worry because anxiety will make your stomach worse.
