Cider viniger for bowel distress

Has anyone tried cider viniger for their IBS?  Apparently it can help to regulate and illiminate some of the bad gut bacteria that can cause it. I had it recommended by a friend and then went on to google about it and found the above information.  What you do is put a tablespoon in a small  glass of hot water, adding if you like a spoonful of clear honey, as it tastes very astringent on its own and I'm a total wimp when it comes to my delicate tastebuds, and drink down two or three times a day. It can also help regulate your weight apparently as bad gut bacteria can actually cause weight gain they have done, the scientists, numerous tests on rats and found this to be so, anyway I am about to start, Tuesday when my shopping comes so if you like I will keep you all posted, best wishes, Fiona

I have not heard of this so I will have to have a look next time I am in the supermarket. What is the difference between this and normal vinegar.

I picked up one tip in here and now consume 1 teaspoon of olive oil per day but I have made so many different changes it is difficult to know which are helping and which are not.

PS Olive oil is horribly metallic so may be best to add something else too

Hi, normal viniger differs from cider viniger in a similar way to manuka honey being different to normal honey and in both cases, the latter strictly "non medicinal", if you are unsure, google or type in "cider viniger" and it should come up, you can get it from virtually any supermarket and its about a pound odd, cost wise, I'm going to have it in meals as well so illiminating the need for ordinary viniger as you can use cider viniger in everyday cooking as well, obviously with no ill effects, hope this helps.

PS   I've heard olive oil can be beneficial as well

I agree, I sometimes cook with it, but my veg I tend to "water fry" and just add a couple of splashes of olive oil, that way it doesn't taste to saturation point if you get my drift

I am glad you went onto further explain as I have never heard of manuka honey either.

Is there a anything specific we should look for as when I looked into olive oil there are 3 or 4 different types but traditional olive oil was the recommendation rather than virgin olive oil or extra virgin olive oil.

I do not put vinegar in my food as bitter but willing to give anything a go if it helps ease symptoms.

Thank you

Hi, I'm really not sure about what type of olive oil is best but myself have always preferred the Virgin x

I am trying everything. I steam veg so I do not need it for that. I use it for scrambled eggs but that is about it so I to consume the old fashioned way on a teaspoon followed by 2 glasses of water to get rid of the taste.

Indeed I do

PS, by the way, Manuka honey, available in Holland and Barrett, is said to have healing properties although I've never tried it myself x

I have Napolina Light Olive Oil but mainly because I do not know much about olive oil so asked my sister and she said this would be fine. Also had a 4 star review on Amazon. If I am going to consume raw I had to ensure there would not be any side effects and so far so good.

Are there any brands of Cider Vinegar you prefer?

The brand I am trying is called "Aspall" mainly because it's the only one available on Tescoes website!

Yes I might have to do some more research on that one as starts at £20 and goes up to £49.99. Ouch. On the plus side it does come with some magic beans

Aspall is probably fine though, having said that.

Sorry, surely not the viniger is £40?! On the Tesco website it's about £1.50 very most x

I tend to have a higher criteria for purchase than only one on the website but this looks good. Thank you for the tip.

Cider vinegar is also good at stopping and getting rid of gallstones.

The different types of honey are because of the plants the bees feed on. If the flower and plant has more beneficial properties the more beneficial the honey is. If you try lavender honey and then another normal honey you can even taste it.

Re olive oil, you shouldn't use it in cooking as it has a low smoking point. Rape seed oil or coconut oil is better for cooking with.

Extra Virgin olive oil is from the first press of the olives. This is the purer form of the oil and more expensive.

Normal olive oil is from the 2nd pressing or other means of getting the last of the oil out. It isn't as pure and won't taste as strong.

Coconut oil is really good for your brain as well as gut. I tend to warm fruit in it as I don't always like the taste in my main meals.

Thank you for the info about cider viniger and gallstones, I have one huge gallstone according to the medics, apparently they are less trouble than say a group of smaller ones, y huge one has always been dormant, thank fully!

RE coconut oil, I tried it and it made me frightfully constipated so abandoned it.

Best wishes.

No manuka honey. I think it must be gold plated

PS, I sometimes cook with toasted sesame oil, it has a rather pleasant taste, I find
