Hi

I am 7 Weeks post op RTKR. Still extremely tired with bouts of nausea. Started work 4 days ago and was only able to last for 4 hrs each of 3 Days. Doing well at therapy but developed Sciatica and pain in my right Achilles. Therapy now working on that also. Still waking up in pain around every 2 hours but only taking Norco before therapy and sometimes during the night. I'm unable to take any NSAIDS due to history of stomach ulcers now wondering if that is prolonging my recovery. I just want to feel better and get my life back. Very depressed at times. When does all of this get better??

Aah bless you, it's not an easy ride is it. I'm 8 weeks RTKR and Ithink for a lot of us it's a bit of an unexpected roller coaster ride. I didn't expect to feel so tired and pretty fed up of four walls.  But if therapy is going well that's a big plus and as all the helpful replies you will get will tell you , it's just a matter of time and patience, we all progress at different rates and take one step forward and two steps back, it's all par for the course .  I too stopped all the medication except Paracetomal as it upset my tummy. Take heart treat your self to little things to help you feel better and project to better times.so many of us have felt like you, things will improve xx

Hi Cindy I am 3 weeks post op. I thought I was doing ok until I had my first physio yesterday . I only have a 90o bend and all I was told is that there is only a small window after op to get sufficient bend or an op will b required. Prior to physio I was tearful so as u can imagine I was worse afterwards. Like u I feel so tired which seems to be increasing. Well done for going back to work I am worried about this as I spend a lot of time on computer and I just don't have energy. I am still popping co codamol 4 x daily n naproxen twice daily. As just to aching n stiff.

Trying to work at 7 weeks IS a daunting task. The pain alone is difficult to deal with and then adding even the slightest requirement messes with The mind. I don't think I caught what kind of work you are doing but if it's More than sitting Nd staring at the top of a bare desk it's difficult. Rest as much as you possiblybcan, increase you hydration as dehydration can cause all sorts of physical and mental difficulties. Slow down and makes sure every step is done properly without hurting.....that includes getting up and down out of a chair

Cindy, I'm so sorry to hear you're down with this, but it's not surprising.  You've been through a major op and not sleeping well but going back to work will be taking it out of you.  Add to that the pain you're getting and your feelings are understandable.  I felt nauseous for a couple of weeks but no idea why - I wasn't on painkillers at that stage but stomach  still hadn't gone back to normal from the op - it seemed to take weeks, so I wonder if that aspect is making it worse.  I know there are those on here who have got sciatica and achilles problems, and maybe they can offer some advice.  The only thing I can suggest is a TENS for the sciatica.  Have you tried that?  But this WILL get better and when you go from week to week and look back I hope you'll feel cheered up a bit.  I hope you can find the answers too!

Hi Cindy, I am 9 weeks post op and still having pain. Came home from PT yesterday and after I could hardly walk. Felt like metal jabbing me in the knee! I am getting depressed also, just want to feel normal again but I guess this is par for the course. I have a problem also with my ham string and IT Band which therapist is trying to work on. Her massages are very painful but hope it treats the problem. We are all in the same boat, I guess we just have to be patient which is very hard at times. Hope you start feeling better. Why did you have to do revision surgery?

I want to encourage you. I went through the same fear about the knee bend. In fact I pushed a little to hard. One pt told me that I was at 80 and that wasn't good. I got in the car and burst into tears. Next week I went in and a different younger therapist said I was doing really well for four weeks and don't worry about the bend. My knee was so swollen then when it measured 80. He remeasured it and I had 95. He said to take my time that this is a year long recovery. Do everything the pt tell us to do at home and we will heal.

Chin up. You'll be ok👍👍

Keep hanging in there. You still have more time to heal. They said it can take up to a year. I am 9 months out double tkr and doing well. Don't give up, be patient and have a sense of humor. It will get better. Take care.

I can't tell you how sorry I am that you are experiencing the discomfort that you are feeling. Be proud of yourself for all of your accomplishments especially for attempting to go back into the workplace. Start slow! Hopefully you have the support of your supervisors who will understand that although you are working towards it, working a full day may not be what you are able to do at this time. And hopefully they'll let you come back to full hours at your pace. That's how I worked my way up to working full-time once again. I had bilateral tkr's a year ago. And to give you hope, its going very well. Measure your improvements maybe not by the day, but by the week. Be diligent in taking any meds that you need for pain management. And at the stage you're at, icing and elevating always brought some relief. Also what I found was eating healthy and getting that deep healing sleep was so beneficial in the healing process. Best wishes and God bless on your journey to healing. Be patient and talk about what you're going through, to the people that are in this forum, and the ones that love you the most.

Take care.
