My spinal consultant wants me to have a rod inserted to straighten my spine.
Has anyone had this procedure and what were the results? He told me that I have compaction of my spinal cord which is static at moment. He didn't tell me the risks if I didn't have the surgery but my Chiropractic practioner said that as I have spinal cord compaction it is serious. Evidently my life could be shorter due to the inability to breathe properly and organ problems. .
Yes,had posterior cervical fusion laminectomy with 2rods & 8 screws c3-6 last year 2016 Sept. after an Anterior fusion c5-6 the year before in 2015 because of cord compression a d diag Isis with DDD, congenital stenosis, and myelopathy.
Thank you for your reply. What was the effect on your head movements and was there discomfort after the site of the operation healed? Were there any problems with the rod and screws as I had heard stories that there were.
Strong muscle spasms while in Hosp after surgery because the muscle is being cut. No problems , though, I feel I'm still recovering...head feels heavy because of neck muscles being weaker. I was off pain meds after 2.5 weeks. Still use baclofen as needed.
Thank you for your answer. What head movement do you have as I was told it would be restricted to looking straight ahead only.
I met a girl that had this done her pain did not go away and now she is unable to drive as she can't look up or down or left to right. She is in her 40's so she is lucky to have a husband to help her. As she relies on him for everything, I would hate to be in that position, she was very upset about her prognosis and regrets having the surgery done. Hope you have a better outcome,
I've been driving for months now and the past few weeks im feeling even less stiff then I did after I had the surgery.
My head movements are not too bad and better than expected. It I make sure I don't force it and turn more at the waist.
I'd have to say I think I lost 5% movement all ways. BUT depending on how many levels and screws and rods you will have could be the difference.
