I'm a male, so other than make sure everything is scrupulously clean and you don't touch or contaminate the section of the catheter that's inserted then there's not much else I can add.

I self catherterise approx 6 times a day. Guess I must be doing something right for a change as I ain't had a UTI for almost 2 years.

PS.....hope I'm not stating the obvious again, but one important thing I forgot to mention that's easily overlooked is to make sure you drain the last possible drop of urine from your bladder.

What soap/antiseptic do you use?

I am using dettol handwash to clean my hands and penis. I take every possibile care to ensure my hands dont get condeminated.

I cathterise only once a day. My residual volume is about 100ml only.

What lubricant do you use?

Apologies for thinking you were female.

I wash my hands with an anti-bacterial hand gel and penis with a perfume free soap then dry off with fresh paper towels. Just before I insert the catheter I give my penis another quick clean with a perfume free wet wipe. I use Speedicath compact catheters, which are self lubricating and very easy to use. I have deformed arthritic hands and unlike some other makes/types of catheter, I don't have any trouble whatsoever with Speedicaths.

I have an atonic bladder condition and need to catherterise every time I urinate.  It took some time to get my head around self catheterising  at first, but I don't give it a second thought now.

Thanks Tony.sorry to hear about your condition. Nice to share info about cisc. Bye.

Hmm,

bye Keris.
